The cause of this condition may be an increased air gap between the wheel speed sensor and the hub reluctor ring due to rust and debris built up on the sensor mounting surface. The wheel speed sensor will need to be removed and the rust around the hole needs to be removed with a file or wire brush, and then apply some grease to the sensor and reistall.

The first most likely possibility is a wheel speed sensor, probably in one of the front wheels. if so, the sensor could be sold separately or poss. as a complete wheel bearing assy. the first thing a shop would do is scan the a.b.s. module for any codes which will bring up which wheel was trouble.

My 2003 Chevy Tahoe has traction control. I noticed this winter when i was on some ice that the traction control light stated that traction control was activated but i could hear grinding and it did not...

It is not supposed to. The traction control gives power to opposing wheels and applies brakes in milliseconds to prevent total loss of control of the car. The computer immediately takes over and prevents 4wd that could send the car into a worse skid.. You are talking about ice which is very different from snow where traction is concerned. The grinding you hear could have been the anti-lock system being activated.

Overheating gage when stop & go -2004 chevy tahoe

natural for engine temp to rise in Traffic - Until Themostat opens ) cooling fan sensor kicks on fan . But Antifreeze is not just a Cold weather item . Coolant is Absolutely Necessary for Hot Days . You must be full to recovery bottle setting of cold when checked prior to start up . Coolant for your make / model is Reddish - Pink colour and should have a reading of -25 thats negative 25 degrees the Lower the Better even - 50 .. Why ?? - 50 is 50 %% antifreeze / Coolant Concentrate MIX Gives Hot weather cooling Ability or very cold weather starting / winter HEAT .

Tahoe Problems

Do you mean 'traction control active'? There is no 'transaction'. Traction control is what keeps your wheels from spinning freely, like in mud, and instead activates 'traction' for your tires, helps them find 'traction' rather than going crazy!

Traction active is kicking in........why? This is a very dangerous problem if you pull out in traffic and your car won't move and I am wondering what is causing this to happen.

ok, traction control is operated by the abs unit (advanced braking system). do you have any dash indicating lights on? if you pull power to the abs system your problem is fixed. but you do need to fix this it is dangerous. The cause will be most likely in your engine code you pull from the cars computer, autozone and checkers pulls codes for free.

My 2004 chevy tahoe w/60,000 miles has started to have the traction active kick in, even on dry pavement. Starting to happen all the time.

Need to find out what code is in the chassie system. Sounds to me like one of the wheel speed sensors is not reading right and the truck things you are sliding. BUT before you put any parts on it, find out what code is in it and report back.
