Nissan Altima 2005 - So the car thinks my trunk is open. The trunk light on the dash is illuminated. I checked and it wasn't open. It was stuck either ~ it just wasn't open. So I hit the trunk button, to actually open it, then I opened and shut it real good. The light didn't go out. I did it again, this time checking to make sure nothing was stuck in the wires or around it anywhere. Shut the trunk. Light still on. Then about 4 hours into my work day my alarm starts going off. I can see my car from where I sit so I could tell no one was around it. I pulled out my keyless entry and unlocked the car to make it stop beeping. 10 minutes later it did the same thing. I just got back from lunch and the trunk light is still on. A coworker went with me to make sure I wasn't losing my mind and that nothing in the trunk was preventing it from latching correctly. What do I do?
Look for a what is called a valet switch under the dash.(it is a pushbutton switch or a toggle switch.) Have somebody help you and turn the key all the way to where it wants to crank the engine and press the button switch or flip the toggle switch at the same time . within 5 seconds at least.your antitheft light will come on and your alarm will sound once. That should bypass the anti theft locking and reset the ECU .Then try to start the car. I don't know if it will work , but give it a try.

hello Kirk , follow these instructions carefully :
sitting in car with all the remotes you wish to register with the vehicle readily available ,,close all doors ! insert key into ignition and remove 6 times within 10 seconds ,, (hazzard warning lamps will then flash twice) ** note withdraw key completely from the cylinder each time ,, if procedure is done too fast it will not enter registration mode ,, ok ,, insert ignition key into cylinder and turn to the accessory position ,, Push any button on the key fob once ,, (hazzard warning lamps will then flash twice),, at this time the new ID code is entered ,, at this time open drivers door ,, check operation of all remotes ..
enjoy Mate .

I have had this problem take you drivers door put your key and un-lock from the out side with key (NO) then open the door push un-lock from the inside button and then set from you remote and it should set if not push un-lock then lock and then do the un-lock with the key. Let me know if that works. what my car did was locked from the inside and I had the problem were it would not work till I un-locked from the out side plus I had to go to radio shack and change the battery from the control.
Hope good happens.
