My kia optima's speedometer will work sometimes but then quit.

Most of the time is the speedometer does not work but on occasion it will just kick on. I know it sounds horrible but I have just been using my GPS for a speedometer till I had the time to fix it. Is it just a loose connection or is the cable broken? Any help is greatly appreciated.

All instruments are controlled by a computer/ If you have only lost speedo, more than likely you have a bad speed sensor located in the top of the transmission. Yes, you can change yourself by unscrewing it from trans. It will have 3 wires going to it and 1 wire is brown.

Your Vehicle velocity sensor has gone bad or the wire harness has gone bad. Check the wire harness first and if that is good, then replace the sensor. You can find the sensor on the transmission out put shaft on the drivers side. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

SOURCE: 2004 KIA Optima LX timing belt/water pump

The thing is your doing the timing belt the water pump is right their with it . it should cost you much more at all besides the cost of the water pump. When doing a timing belt I have a rule that I go by The timing belt/seals =cam , crank , any pulley & tensioner & water pump all get replaced at the same time. I did a t-belt on a Audi A-8 very complex whole front of car has to come off as well, he didnt want to do w-pump & thermostat his thermostat was their as well not even a month later the water pump gave out he had to pay double the price because he didnt want to do it when I had it apart the first time. And make sure mechanic is ase certified . good luck

SOURCE: 01 kia optima stalled and wont start...starter just clicks

It seems the starter is playing up.First check if your battery is charged fully or try to jump start and see what happens. If the engine start then it's either you need a new battery or else you need a replacement alternator.Test using a voltmeter if the actual altenator is working. Finally the last option is the starter motor that needs changing or fixing...Hope this helps.

2007 Kia Optima front vents quit blowing air

If you mean the blower motor is not working at times, it can be the motor, a resistor, or the switch on the dash. Could also be a bad connection in the wiring harness.
When the blower won't work, a mechanic would check for power and ground at the motor.

You'll need to have someone check the circuit - could be a bad a/c clutch, relay, or short in the wiring.

The speedometer on my 2003 KIA, Optima quit working how do I fix it, or what should I look for?

Hi,
This a electronic sender unit fault or wiring fault.
The sender unit in the gearbox is faulty or the wiring from the sender to the dash display is faulty. Have these checked, it will be either of them.
Thanks

You need to have the codes checked. when you cycled the key , you were resetting the ECM. This didn't fix the problem. Get the codes and let me know. We can go from there. There are to many things to list that can shut down engines. And you don't need to buy expensive parts that you don't need.

Speedometer and Odometer quit working intermittently. Car has over 60,000 miles.

Try to look for the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) on the transmission and make sure all connections are tight and clean on the harness.

The speed sensor is what sends a signal to the speedometer. It's located on the transmission housing, usually at the output shaft. Have the engine codes read with a scanner to make sure that's what's causing the check engine light to illuminate.

2004 Kia Optima I was driving 70 down the highway and the speedometer quit when I parked the car and took the keys out the radio and lights remained on now the car is stuck in reverse with the park lights...

The speedometer going bad could be the VSS (Velocity Speed Sensor), which detects the cycles the transmission makes and where the speedometer gets its information.
The parking lights on, not sure. Maybe the VSS going bad caused something else to go bad?
