SOURCE: A high pitched whining noise in the engine.

Some questions:
- Does it happen when standing if you raise the RPMs up to 2-3,000? If yes, listen closely to the alternator.
- Is it related to road speed?  If so, then you should put it on a chassis lift, wheels free, then cause it to happen by putting it in gear and raising RPMs to road speed.
I suspect it isn't the acceleration that causes the pitch to change but rather engine RPMs.
You could check this while on the road by starting in a lower gear and noting when the whine is very noticeable, then slip into the next higher gear to see if the whine changes or remains the same. If it remains, it probably isn't related to the engine but to some rotating part(s) outside it (for example, wheel bearings.) If it changes, then the noise is coming from some engine component and alternators can do this when the amperage load is high; it's also a part that turns at a fairly high speed and will 'whine' rather than 'growl.'

SOURCE: whine from 2005 corolla automatic transmission

Have the tranny serviced with fluid change and filter, if noise it still there it is the torque converter . Have the dealer fix it ,and have it on paper with dealer invoice when it is done. Do all this before warranty expires. IT IS NOT USUAL for any car, Toyota included, to have tranny whine!!!!!

Whining noise on 2002 chevy tracker, comes and goes

Could be your alternator or a bad idler pulley. Is the transmission good? It may be the tranny or your differential whining.

1985 toyota mr2 engine noise

It still could be the throw-out bearing. When going bad, they have a high pitched whine or whistling, and if bad enough, could imitate a vibrating sensation. IDK, I would have a mechanic there listen to it.

Continued battery drain and high pitched noise when car started

Maybe the alternator is bad. A high pitched whine could mean that the alternator is not working properly.

One can test, by removing the belt to the alternator and running the engine and seeing if the whine goes away.

Weird noises in drive and reverse

The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.
