My '01 Mustang V6 revs high when in neutral/when changing gears.

The car revs to around 4,000 RPMS whenever put into neutral or when changing gears from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc. If I put the car into neutral and brake to stop, the car revs until coming to a complete stop. I have changed the Throttle Position Sensor, checked throttle linkage, etc. but the problem persists.

My car is 1997 fairmont I have just bought it and it ran fine until recently. It has started to rev really high like it is in neutral. I have checked the fluid, but have been told it may be a vacum hose

I put my car into 1st gear and start driving off it pops out of 1st gear to neutral, I can shift from 2nd to 3rd gear with no problem its just the 1 gear that keeps popping back to the neutral position. What can I do to resolve this problem? Please advise.

What would cause my 05 GMC ENVOY TRANSMISSION TO NOT WANT TO CHANGE GEARS ALSO THE RPMS REV HIGH AND TRUCK WONT HO OVER 60 MILES PER HOUR WHAT CAN BEVTHE PROBLEM?

There could be several issues that could cause your GMC Envoy's transmission to not shift gears properly and the RPMs to rev high. Here are a few potential problems that you may want to consider:
  1. Low transmission fluid: If the transmission fluid is low, it could cause problems with the shifting mechanism. You'll want to check the transmission fluid level and add more if needed.
  2. Faulty shift solenoid: The shift solenoid is responsible for directing transmission fluid to the appropriate gear. If the solenoid is faulty, it could cause shifting problems.
  3. Worn transmission bands or gears: If the transmission bands or gears are worn, it could cause the transmission to not shift properly and the RPMs to rev high.
  4. Clogged transmission filter: A clogged transmission filter can restrict the flow of transmission fluid, causing shifting issues.
  5. Faulty transmission control module (TCM): The TCM is responsible for controlling the transmission. If it's not functioning properly, it could cause shifting problems.
I would recommend having a mechanic diagnose and fix the problem for you. It's important to address transmission issues promptly, as they can lead to further damage if left unchecked.

Does the driving on overdrive mode cause high fuel consumption, because the transmission use the first three ratios mostly?

driving in over drive mode actually is what gives the economy as the engine rpms will be around 300 less than direct drive . Lower rpms = fuel savings
OD should come in around 60 klm/hr and drop out at around 50 klm/hr. When you are accelerating hold the pedal in a set position and watch the rev counter (rpms ) and each gear change you will see the rpms drop and then build back up as the vehicle speed increases At 100klm/hr the revs should be around 3200 rpms or less but if over ( say 3500 rpms) then may be the OD is not coming in. One way to test a box operation is to find a speed shop with a dynomometer and test the gear selections against loads and engine rpms

RPM revs high and changes while in neutral

Check the air intake sensors, called MAF or MASS air flow. They have temp and baro devices in them.

Where is the vacuum hose into the intake manifold for a 2003 Chevy Impala?

IF the engine was revving high RPMS it had to be a serious vaccum leak. If the PCV came undone it would cause it rev up quite high. the shaking was from the factory set RPM limiter when not in gear (around 4,000 RPMS) the only other vaccum leak big enough would be for the brake booster. They both have a check valve but that doesn't mean much. I would start there PCV is around 5 bucks and the other is about the same. If you need pics of location I could do that also.
