SOURCE: 2003 mercury grand marquis headlights will cut out

My 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis has the same problem. We found out it was the headlight module located under the dash above the gas pedal. The black box has wire connectors coming out of the back. Hitting the box worked for a little while, then I had to reach in the back and wiggle the wire harness. The dealership wants 500.00 to replace the unit. I consider Highway Robbery! They have installed a faulty piece of equipment on my Luxury car that could easily be life threatening but we know it won't be recalled until someone dies because of it. My husband was able to remove the unit and looked it over it had two circuit boards and he was unable to visibly see any problem or loose wire. He cleaned the connectors and used some electrical terminal grease on the wires, this improved it for a short time. The problem still exsists. I have sat for 30 minutes or more waiting for them to go through the On/Off cycle till they stay on for the 45 minute ride home from work. I have beat the box with my flashlight (maglights handle the abuse, my fingers and nails don't) till it came loose from the brackets that hold it. I leave my car running while pumping gas, short shopping trips and start it 20 or 30 minutes early before leaving for work. It is frustrating and dangerous. If this is the kind of quality in our American made cars it's no wonder they needed a BailOut! The only thing we have found to "fix" it is to find a used part that could possibly have the same problem shortly down the road or pay the theives at the dealership to replace it.

SOURCE: Parking and dash light wont turn on. Headlights will turn on.

Sounds like the the parking light fuse blew.Under the dash there is a fuse block.you will see fuses there and remove the fuse to see if blown. If so replace with same type fuse.Anymore questions will be glad to help you...

its the tube going from the egr valve to your exhaust it have carbon build up and you either have to replace it or get a metal coat hanger and clean it out.

Tail lights and dash lights are out please help!!!

Those are two different circuits, but both controlled by the headlight switch. Have you checked the fuses to see if they have power from the switch ?

What causes my tail lights, park and dash lights not to work on my 1994 grand marquis

It's the headlight switch. The terminals burn out for the tail lights, dash lights (and in your case parking lights, mine seem to be alright) quite frequently. I've changed my switch out 5 times in the last 2 1/2 years, been to pick and pull yards in NY, IL, AZ and CA to find a switch for myself and I usually have to go through 3 or 4 cars because their switches are already burnt out. It must be a deeper problem in the wiring, but my car knowledge only goes so far.

My auto lamp works but the rear lights and dash illumination does not. All fuses are good.

It's the terminals for the tail and dash lights on your headlight switch. It is a common problem though Mercury never seems to have addressed it. I've had to change my switch out 5 times in 2.5 years.

Dash lights and tail lights don't work

Lights and electrical circuits are sometimes in pairs so that you notice something is wrong (tail lights and dash). On a '90 merc grand marq., that would be fuse #4,the 15 amp blue one, in the panel next to your left foot. If you are lucky,it
just failed from age. If you are not lucky, there is a short in the system containing
the dash, tail, parking, side marker, license lamps and trailer tow relay if equiped.I had to replace the push/pull main light switch which was shorted. If you are lucky, just replacing the fuse in the panel will do it. Referance Grand Marquis Owners Manual for fuses and function.

When headlights are on, parking/ tail/ dash lights are out.

I had that happen twice on my 94 Grand Marquis.
It is the Light Switch (around $40) Replaced it and its fine.

1994 Grand Marquis, marker, tail and dash lights not working. Brake and turn signals work, fuses are all good, checked them all. Worked on passenger side door window, removed door panel, don't think this...

Your light switch is bad. The switch controls what you listed plus headlights, obviously. I've had this problem before. headlights would be on, but nothing else.

My tail lights and dash don't work.brake lights&turn sigalswork.all fusses are good.

The dash lights are wired together with the tail lights so you will know when the tail lights are not working. If you are positive the fuse is good (tried a new one in the socket) then you have a bad wire. Using a multimeter test the hot wire from the fuse block to the tail lights. It it is good then check to be sure the ground wire(s) are good and making a good connection to the frame.
