I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The engine light is on for about a week. Now I noticed, when I tried moving from a stop position, the car seems to move from 3rd gear instead of 1st gear. I have to press the gas harder to get it moving. Once moving it is OK. Can anyone tell me what is wrong.

The car Gods created check engine lights so people don't have to guess at where to start. Get the codes read. Then you'll have a starting point. Waste of time to guess until you do that.

SOURCE: 2001 Jeep won't reverse

Depending upon what transmission you have, it could be a bad solenoid or control unit, bad reverse band or servo or a few other things. If you find no external problems, you will need a trans shop to examine it. If rpm drops when reverse is selected that means it's trying to go but has an internal problem.

SOURCE: 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited starts in 3rd gear

oil pressure problem should be checked independently of other problems...Use a good accurate mechanical gauge to check. If pressure is good (no less than 15psi at idle hot (I prefer to see at least 20) check dash grounding, block ground and if OK, change sending unit. Dash and body ground can influence operation of shift and body control modules so indirectly your problem may or may not be related, depending upon what you find while testing. And it could turn out to be a defective module! They are expensive and just plugging new ones in may work, but then again, it might not. I might be totally incorrect on this...that's the value of actually being there instead of doing this by "remote control".
If you read the numerous posts pertaining to all vehicles, you will see that you are not alone with electrical problems...As long as the engineers who design this stuff, keep using "modules" to replace ordinary simple and reliable systems, we will continue to have these problems. Do some testing and I'm sure you will find a solution! (I'm still waiting for someone to make a program for a PC that will give a complete readout of every system in a vehicle, including exact faults instead of general system "suggestions")
Good luck

Check the Trans fluid level with it running and at operating temperature. Jeep NAG1 transmissions are known to have the input electric seal leak trans fluid. Not an exspensive fix add Mopar ATF4 and then relace the guild seal.

SOURCE: 2004 jeep grand cherokee will not start, dash

It takes very little voltage and amperage to operate dash gauges. You cannot rely on "seems" when it comes to the battery. A good battery should have standing voltage of at least 12v and be able to "snap back" from a fifteen second 200 amp load. Under load, the voltage should not drop lower than 9.5 volts. Have the battery charged and load tested before going anywhere else with this. then make sure connections are clean and tight. After you get it started, if battery was good, check starter draw and charging system operation. If it does not start, check power flow from key through neutral safety switch and starter relay to starter.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee temp gauge high when heat is on

If your "check engine" light is turn on, I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there. Additionally, could be some problem with the "temp sending unit".

Fill the rad and check for leaks. Bring the engine temp up to normal, if necessary. Try not to spill any water when filling the rad, if you do, let it dry before starting the car, JKust makes it easier to find the leak. Frankster016
