I recently bought a 2002 dodge intrepid off of craigs list. Immediately when driving it home it overheated! I was able to get it home and realized that there was a crack in the coolant tank. We fixed the over heating issue by replacing the tank. The same day we notice that the car hesitates when trying to start. It will take a long time to turn over and it only starts if i pump the gas while turning the key. Nothing goes wrong when i drive it. When i park it and turn off the car and then try and turn it back on again, sometimes it wont start or takes me a few min to get it to start. please help!
I have been working on Chrysler products since the late 1960's. Your 2002 Dodge Intrepid has a computer control system. It is POSSIBLE to get diagnostic codes from your car, without a code reader. To do that, simply put the ignition key in, then rotate it clockwise to the run position, then back to off, then run, then off then run ... and watch for a blinking light on the dash. Assuming that is the check engine light, it will "blink the codes" to you! Count the ON (illuminated) blinks, until there is a short pause. That is the first digit of the first code. After the first pause, the blinks will be indicating the second digit of the first code. If you miss-count ... sorry, but you will have to start over. When you count five blinks, a short pause (maybe two seconds), then five more blinks, that is the "end of codes"
indicator. When you get all the codes, post them for analysis.

I could very well be the TPS throttle position sensor acting up. I had a very similar situation on a 99 Concorde with the same engine in it in my shop today. Go to a shop that is able to do a data stream on the engine. What it is, is they hook up a scanner and have the ability to watch all the sensors as the car starts/runs.

first of all, check your code to see what the car computer shows. To do that , insert the key in the ignition and switch it on three time within 2 seconds and the third time live the key in the on position. All the instrument panel lights will lite and the oddometer will display the fault code that may br the cause for your car not starting. goood luck.
