Fuel Gauge Not Reading

I replaced the fuel pump and the truck started right away. The only thing that came out wrong was that my fuel gauge is not reading the gas that I have in the gas tank. Please Help!

My 1999 Sierra Ext Cab also has intermittant fuel reading. the gauge shows empty even after a complete fill up and the low fuel light is lit until I drive aboout ten miles or so.. where is the float electrical connection located? is it on top of the tank behind the cab?

2000 GMC Sierra has the same problem. Didn't have it when the car was new. Developed about a year ago. The "low fuel" light goes on and the fuel gauge indicator goes from full to empty after we fill the gas tank--whether driving or idling. The problem seems to end when the gas tank is about 3/4 full.

Around the time this problem erupted, we had a "dirty fuel" problem and had to replace the fuel filter and clean out the fuel system. Maybe the fuel level sensor floater thing in the tank is also dirty.

Is it true that I can reset the fuel gauge after replacement of fuel pump by disdisconnecting power for a while so it resets itself?

Hi,I never herd of reseting a fuel gauge before,I thought they where of a float sender unit in the tank and that showed the amount of fuel on the gauge aldepending how much fuel you have in the tank,if Im right then the sender unit could be falty if you feel that its giving you the wrong reading.
hope this was some help.

Why is gas gauge not working correctly since fuelpump was replaced.

Is this a flex fuel vehicle. If so, call the dealership and ask the parts dept. if there is a gauge module (perhaps behind the instrument cluster). This may be the culprit and needs to be replaced.

HI, MY FUEL GAUGE WORKS BUD ERRATIC, I MEAN IT DOESNT SHOW THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF GAS LEFT. WHAT COULD BE WRONG? THANKS.

In a case like this, the culpret is most likely the fuel level sending unit, which is located on the fuel pump in the fuel tank. In most vehicles, the pump and the sending unit all come in one assembly, which means in order to get a correct reading on the gauge, you'll need to replace the fuel pump. And actually, considering the fact that you have to drop the fuel tank and remove the pump anyway, it's just good measure to change them as a set.

I hope this helps! :)

My Fuel gauge moves from left to right.

Have you checked the ground straps to the frame? That's where I would start.

2001 Buick Lesabre - Fuel Gauge not showing correct reading.

sounds like you probably need a fuel level sender. it's located in the trunk on the right hand side attached to the fuel pump. I got one on ebay for about 20.00, but you might as well replace the fuel pump while you're at it, as it can go bad with time.

Fuel gauge

Well, your fuel gauge can be stuck at the 3/4 mark. Or you bent it while installing it, causing a wrong reading.

Take out the fuel pump and ensure when the float is at the empty position your gauge is at E. If not adjust it properly. Also make sure your connections are correct. You said you swith the wires, don't see how they only go one way unless you have the nut and screw type.

Again, I think you bent it while installing it.. Also make sure you put the pump in correctly, you could have installed it the wrong way not letting the float ..............float!
