I have 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.2 v8, the truck was working fine. the next day it didn't start up, so I changed rotor cap, spark plugs, wires and coil. After I changed all these parts it starts but it doesn't stay on and it's miss firing. I triple checked the firing order and it's correct.

go to Didgeforums.com.

I had a similiar problem, found the solution there. It was the wiring harnes on the drivers side under the hood, just above the wheel well. there are a cluster of wires in a bundle. I unpacked the bundle carefuly and sure enough the were two or three wires all coroded, had wite powder from corosion. repaired the connections and bingo. I posted details at dodgeforums.com. browse around there. I posted pictures as well. this is a common problem.

SOURCE: 97 dodge ram no spark

then i would replace whats called the hall effect sensor its that black plastic plate you see when you take dist cap off. just pull rotor and lift up the sensor.dist cap is what holds it on.also under the sensor will be a stamped sheet metal piece that looks like the top of a castle wall. make sure its not loose on the shaft.if it is then new dist will be needed

I just gave my 2001 dodge ram 1500 a tune up, new spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. it ran well for about 3 days on the fourth day it started miss firing and threw a code. I didn't get the code number...

P0303, P0304? check the routing of the wires and make sure they are snug at both ends. See if they are routed too close to the engine or any other ground point. Did the old wires have any covers or conduits that you did not reuse? You can probably see/hear sparks jumping if that is your problem. If you can see them, you know where the wires are too close to ground. OK?
