You will have to drop the fuel tank to gain access to the fuel pump. Use a floor jack to support the fuel tank. Hopefully it is empty. If not fill someone else's tank up with your fuel. You will first have to disconnect the rubber hoses that go to the filler neck. There will be two. Then undo the two straps that support the fuel tank. Carefully lower the tank to get access to the electrical connections for the gauge and the fuel pump. Disconnect them. There will be a couple of fuel line you need to disconnect now also. You have to push two tangs in towards the fuel line and gently pull the connection apart. Then lower the tank and remove from under the vehicle to remove the screw on cap that holds the fuel pump and sending unit in the tank. Once the cap is removed gently lift up and tilt the assembly so you can clear the float out the top without bending the arm attached to the float. The fuel pump is in the center of the assembly. A very pricey item. Expect to pay from 160.00 to 230.00 for the pump. Two other things before you start this project to check. Check the fuel pump relay in the power distribution box in the engine area. If it is bad replace it before going any further. Also on the fuel rail is a cap that you need to remove to bleed off the fuel pressure in the system. It looks like a typical valve stem inside that you would see if you put air into your tire. Beware- pressure runs around 40 PSI. Protect your eyes and if you smoke -don't do so while you work on this system. Good luck. I hope this gets you where you need to get started.

Is there a access panel in the 1998 grand Cherokee jeep without dropping the gas tank

I replaced the fuel pump in a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport without having to remove the gas tank. Maybe you can too in your '98 Grand Cher. If your fuel pump is accessed from the upper front of the gas tank-above the rear differential-then you should be able to remove the pump with the tank in place. It was easy on that jeep of my son's, took only about an hour or two.

My truck wont start. I changed the battery and fuel pump. what could be the problem

Check your fuel pump relay in the fuse box under the hood located next to your battery. same thing happened to my 98 grand Cherokee. if you turn on the key and you don't hear your fuel pump then the relay is bad and needs replacing.

Tp fuel pumps from same year different wireing

What you brought is an tank and unit from 1995 JGC. from 1993 till 1995 they have the same fuel pump. 96'er Jeeps start with OBD - Systems and they have other fuel pumps. You can't change the plug ins, because you may have other fuel filter in your Granny. Check filter and fuel lines if they fit with the unit you brought. If not, you need another unit from a real 96'er Jeep

Need to know location of fuel pump in a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The fuel pump will be located inside your gas tank which will require you to remove the straps and to drop the tank down... The filter depending on the car, will either be inside the fuel tank, or outside of it near the front of the tank.

Other issues that may cause bad idling would be a bad TPS or EGR
