1995 Ford Ranger 3.0 camshaft positioning sensor

The part where the camshaft positioning sensor is mounted is deformed slightly due to the sensor failure, can I reshape the area to accept the new sensor or does it need to be replaced. if so what is the part called (where the camshaft positioning sensor mounts) is it available at a salvage part and approx cost?

I would test the tps and map sensors. Sorry, but I don't have the procedures. Each has 3 terminals and in each case, two of the terminals should have linear variation of resistance with input changes.

I received a P0340 on my 1995 Nissan Altima. It says I need to replace the Camshaft sensor. The dealers say that my car does not have one in it and that it may be in the distributor itself. Is this true....

They may be right. I cannot find the part. here is what the manual says:

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION The camshaft position sensor is located inside the distributor. On some distributors, the camshaft position sensor is not serviceable (replacement parts may not be available separately). If the camshaft position sensor is serviceable, use the following procedure.

  1. Remove the distributor cap and wires.
  2. Remove the rotor.
  3. Remove the camshaft position sensor cap.
  4. Remove the camshaft position sensor mounting screws.
  5. Carefully remove the camshaft position sensor.

To install:
  1. Position the camshaft position sensor in the distributor and tighten the mounting screws securely.
  2. Install the camshaft position sensor cap.
  3. Install the rotor.
  4. Install the distributor cap and wires.

Need to fix a camshaft position sensor on an 01 ford ranger 3.0

the cam sensor is located in the topside of the engine, behind the manifold, near the firewall. it is held in by two mounting bolts. just remove the wire connector and the two mounting bolts. you can then remove the cam sensor. slightly lube the oring on the new cam sensor and reinstall. tighten two mounting bolts and reconnect the wire connector

P0340 Code Camshaft Position Sensor

The Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor detects the position of the camshaft in order to identifiy when piston No. 1 is on its compression stroke. The CMP sensor is used for ignition timing in the Ford DIS igntion system, but not in the EDIS igntion system. Both DIS/EDIS use the CMP signal for synchronizing the firing of sequential fuel injectors.

On the 3.0L vulcan engine, the CMP signal is generated by a single Hall-Effect magnetic switch, activated by a single "vane" spinning around by virture of a synchronized shaft which is driven by the camshaft.

The CMP sensor & synchronizer/shaft are located behind the intake manifold (i.e., back near the firewall on a Ranger) on the top of the cylinder block. If you just need to replace the sensor, it is a simple job of unplugging the electrical connector and removing the screws holding the sensor in place. Here is a sketch of the sensor to give you an idea what to look for:
