    I may have to resort to that but I have hopes [still] of finding a cheaper solution.

    contant your local bmw dealer, you should be able to order another one with the parts dept.

It's an 8-year-old car that was bought used. So I probably am not your typical BMW owner.

Also, have you checked the stock market lately? Lots of BMW drivers now are looking for more economical ways of living. But I appreciate being mistaken for a wealthy eccentric. ;-)

1998 Z3.. Manual Trans shudder under acceleration in 2nd gear as it nears 2000 rpms, then goes away as it approaches 2500 rpm's.. Any suggestions?.. Thanks
It could either be the flex disc or drive shaft center bearing. I had the same problem on my 98 Z3 and I replaced both and it took care of the problem.

My 2000 Z3 BMW smells like it is running hot. The dash gage shows normal (right in the middle) We have not found any leaks anywhere indicating that the water resivor overflows. Any suggestions?
Check the exhaust side of your valve cover gasket for evidence of an oil leak. Burning synthetic oil tends to smell like hot plastic.

I have a 2000 BMW Z3 and today when I went to start it I inadvertently let the key back off from the 'start' position before the engine had started...right after that, and still now, it only clicks and...
with the engine off put it in any gear and rock the car back and forward this should hopefully disengage the starter

2000 Z3 power top failure
i had the same problem and BMW told me it will cost 1200 AUD to fix. I fixed it for free. inside there is a tiny kill switch above the passanger side. it wont let the roof operate unless you lift the roof. that was the problem. it was faulty. I by passed it and it has been fine for 5 years. I can't find the switch to replace so when I watch and lift the roof like you normaly do when want to open it.
