Its probably a buildup of lubricant and dust that is making the latch stick and bind.Get some rags and put them around the latch.Get some wd40 and give it a really good spray. The wd40 will help to loosen the dirt etc.Leave it for 10mins and do it again.A toothbrush will help free up the dirt and the latch should work.can you hear the motor running when you use remote or key ?2 things that go bad on your car is trunk lock and trunk harness to see if is harness you bring remote and go to trunk push on lock and unlock see if you can hear any noise from the lock in trunk if no moving nosie is heard than your problem is in trunk wire harness ,but most the time problem is trunk lock they go bad more than the harness.when you go to trunk open you will see cover on the trunk lid hold with a clips you have to pry out all the clips and cover will come out in the trunk lid now that done you will need to unplug power from the trunk lock and lock from under front side you will see 2 bolts torx size t45 or t50 remove that and lock is out.Check the lock condition and movement manually.--------------- For more help on functions of your carplease click on the link below:--http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2002/2002_s60/02s60_07.htm#pg118Thanks. You can adjust the trunk lid by loosening the bolts at the hinges. If that wont work then there is a micro switch incorporated within the trunk latch. You will need to replace the entire latch unit unfortunatly.
