Where do I locate a freeze plugs on a mercury mounta

I have the 97 built in 96' (non DFTE) and the EGR valves is just to the left of the Transmission dipstick.

I believe it is in the middle of the passenger side valve cover.

The PCV Valve is located under hood, center, upper engine area, mounted in rear of intake manifold.

on the 5.0 liter it is in the rear lower intake manifold

the PCV valve is is typically located in the valve cover near the brake booster-4.0L pushrod V6. On a 5.0L V8 engines, the PCV valve is located at the back of the intake manifold.

On the valve cover, inside the end of a small (3/4") hose.

follow the air filter vent up to the throttle body then look in back of aluminum housing

You didn't say whether your engine is a 4.0L v6 or a 4.6L v8 but if you have an excessive amount of air blowing back into air box and vehicle is running good otherwise you may have a stuck open PCV valve causing it to pull to much vapors from engine crankcase.
If it is a 4.6L it will be located in the valve cover itself.
If it is the 4.0L locate the hose coming off of the back of the upper intake and it will be at the end of this hose. This one you twist CC to remove.
