I have a 2002 chevy cavalier ls coupe and my instrument cluster lights are completly out. All the warning symbols work, just the guage lights are out but only when I turn the headlights on. The miles are digital and I can clearly see those as well untill I turn the head lights on then black. This all happened in an odd way, I had, my dash off to install new radio, after all said and done the lights in the instrument panel were very dim in areas, then a few months later they completly went out. Fuses are good checked them.. Any ideas how to fix this?

sorry me bad didn't finish reading the question. Has this ever happened before, there are 3 things that have to checked ignition switch, wiring and module so your gonna need wiring diagrams. or take to a shop

There are two possible cause of dim display.

On the deluxe trim level of the Impala the is light sensor. When the sensor mis-calibrated the light will not be at the level you want.

As a test,use a small flash light and aim to the sensor and see is the circuit act according it.

The dimmer light is a VERY CHEAP component. I will glow it out with compress air 1st. Turn the dial back and forth 20-30 time in rapid motion will help remove unwanted carbon,

Use a eletrical contact cleaner to clean all contacts.

Is the headlight in OEM specification?

After market headlights may draw more amperage and cause low power for smaller bulbs.

if its not a fuse. try a relay. itll be under the hood in a little box. if thats not it than it could be a short in the wiring.check your running lights as well. most of the time they are ran on the same fuse so if one doesnt work the other one probably wont. also if you have recently replaced your stereo. check over the wiring on it because something could have got loose.
