SOURCE: 1999 VW Passat low idle

replace your fuel filter first. If that does not do it, then try an air-flow meter. (if the check engine light is on it may be an airflow meter.

SOURCE: Reset service interval alarm on VW Passat-01?

This is a mileage interval light that trips every 3,000 to 5,000 miles that indicates an oil change is necessary. You do not need a special tool to change your oil, nor do you need to bring the car in to the dealer.
1. Sit in the driver's seat of the Passat and close all the doors.
2. Position the trip/odometer button to display the odometer mileage reading, then hold it down with the forefinger on your left hand.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "key-on/engine-off" position to turn on all the power options for the Passat without actually starting the engine. At this point, a service indicator light will display (in the form of a wrench).
4. Press the minute adjustment button on the clock (or turn the knob clockwise on European manufactured Passats) and release the trip/odometer button.
Good luck and thank you using Fixya

I want to find out more on the vw passat alarms

I'd suggest you join VW Vortex forum and post your question under your VW model discussion forum. You have a higher rate of hitting it dead on for your car solutions and how fast you receive suggestions. Just hit the address abive to take you there. Any VW forum will work and not necessarily VW Vortex, I just happen to use them.
Please rate any suggestions given in your search for a solution. Thank you.

1998 VW Passat 1.8T is hard to start then idle is too high

Check the engine code. If It is P0103 then your mass air flow sensor is messed up. Also the wiring on the 1.8T deteriorate easily. Finally, you might have a vacuum leak. Check the hoses in and out of the intake box.

WHERE IS THE TIMING BELT LOCATED ON MY 1998 VW PASSAT?

Timing belt is hidden under all accessories (alternator, A/C compressor, Power Steering pump, etc.) It is a difficult repair, on many VW models it requires removal of the whole 'front clip' which involves fenders, grill and radiator. Expect $600 -$800 cost. Usually the water pump should also be changed with timing belt - just because to tear engine down that far, it is a preventative step to save future problems.

Location of security arlam of vw passat

The alarm is located behind the back seat on the Drivers side. Up and towards the outside of the car.
Pull the back seat down. Look up where I stated.
You may need to remove or pull back the trim.
You should be able to see it mounted there.

Hope this helps.
