Noisy Ride I just purchased a used 2002 Toyota Echo. I like everything about it, with the exception of the noise. Whether driving locally or on a highway, the noise is loud enough so that it is difficult to hear the radio. The noise is nothing special, just a very loud engine sound. (I do not hear it when I am at a stop).

I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY MILES ARE ON THE ENGINE. Found no bulletins for noise concern
Intake tappet clearance should be .006"-.010" and
Exhaust clearance should be .010"-.014"

Check if:-
- It is squealing or squeaking noise, the thrust bearing is at fault and need to be replaced.
- The noise varies when accelerating or decelerating, check the engine mounts and muffler Re torque all the suspension nuts and bolts. Also have a look in the engine bay area for any loose component.
- Noise is heard in any particular gear, then the transmission may require major repair.
- Check the transmission oil level.

This blower fan in the 2002 Toyota Echo is located under the dashboard on the passenger side of the vehicle. It is covered by a plastic panel that snaps into place and shields the motor from accidental damage. When the blower fan fails, air will not come out of the vehicle's vents despite the fan control speed setting. I had this on my 2002 Yaris, with 103,000 miles on the clock. I found that the rear engine mounting rubber bush was partly torn and the charcoal cannister was loose (not inserted in bracket properly). I installed a used rear engine mount off e-bay, straightened the cannister bracket and inserted it properly. Knocking noise at low revs now sorted.

sounds like the lifters... when was yout last valve adjustment?

Just a giuess but you may listen to the water pump. They can make noise when there going out and quit like they have a mind of there own. Just a thought and easy check, Raz

there should be a sticker somewere under the hood with th specs for the A/C if not you can call your local toyota dealer and ask for the service department and the can look it up for you.

Use a multimeter to check. unplug the sensor and replace it with multimeter. As the coolant warms you should see a voltage change. I don't know the exact figures you should see but it works on voltage change to close and open the circuit, hope it helps.

Without being there, it is hard to say. You need to consider tire condition - large mud tires are noisy; tires over inflated will be noisy; a bad driveline u-joint will make noise; drive line bearings, wheel bearings all could be a factor. have a mechanic friend ride with you and help pinpoint the cause.

Sounds like you have an aerodynamic noise issue.

I assume that your vehicle has a roof rack.
Loosen the front cross bar, and move it backward. See if the noise "moves" backwards. If it does, remove the crossbar, it comes off from the back of the roofrack; turn it around and reinstall it.
