The overdrive light just started blinking, and the overdrive is turning itself on and off while I am driving?
On the Fords, the usual suspect is the lock-up solenoid or the control solenoid, which are one in the same. My truck has been doing the same thing for years, and your probably having some major issues when the light does blink such as, a very hard or slow shift? It's more than likely that its the control solenoid. Now there are several things to cause this problem, one of the majors is the solenoid has gotten some shavings attached to it, as it works on a magnetic field telling the transmission to apply more pressure to the torque convertor, thus if its not getting a proper reading it will over compensate by applying more trans pressure than needed, which will cause a hard shift, and cause the TCM to send the code to the OBD (On board diagnosis / Computer). There are a coupe of quick fixes, but if your transmission has not been properly serviced throughout its lifetime, I wouldnt suggest half of these options. One is to flush the system / trans completely out, either proffesionally or however you can get it flushed. Another is check your fluid levels, and if a little low, get some Lucus Trans Fluid for no slip, and apply this product by just pouring it into your trans. The lucus completely fixed mine, but every now and then it will start blinking, and I just simply shut the truck off and start back up and its cured. Just from my experience, it doesn't mean the trans is bad, just a sign of abnormalities in the trans.

The overdrive light blinking means that a fault code has been stored in the computer, this can be for many different reasons. The car isn't actually turning overdrive on and off, it is just a way to alert you of a problem. Getting the computer scanned will provide a fault code eg. P(XXXX) if you can get this code I can help you further. -Jared

That's what my 01 escape xlt 4wd did right before the transmission went out. Definitely need to hook up a code reader. Parts place like Advance or Autozone will usually have one they can hook u up in the parking lot and at least tell you what the error code is. Good luck.
no lights clicking noise
Set screw came out of shifter knob. After the knob and screw were replaced the vehicle's overdrive now kicks in and out when driving the vehicle.
