Oil Change intervals and Oil Type

2007 Volvo S80 3.2liter. The manual says 7500mi. and our service dept. uses Castrol GTX 5-30. I have never been one to wait on oil changes and also not a real fan of Castrol oil. Just looking for opinions and suggestions.

Thanks

Ted

I would fallow what the manual says but if the oil says they can go further go to the half way point.

i have an 05 Dodge quad cab 1 ton it has a 5.9L and i believe its every 5000mi. but i use Amsoil with the Amsoil oil filter and i can go one year with out changing oil. sometimes i put it back in because it still looks and feels safe enough to.

What is oil change schedule for 2007 DTS also transmission fluid change schedule

Your vehicle's engine requires oil meeting GM Standard GM6094M. You should look for and use only an oil that meets GM Standard GM6094M. SAE 5W-30 is best for your vehicle.
The best Brand is 5W-30, Mobile 1 synthetic oil, but you can use Castrol GTX 5W-30, too. It is very important to use only one barand of engine oil.
When the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message in the Driver Information Center (DIC) comes on,
means that an oil change service is required for your vehicle.
If the engine oil life system is ever reset accidentally, you must service an oil change for your vehicle within 3,000 miles (5 000 km), or three months wichever comes first, since your last service.
The maintenace tune ups for this car are scheduled at 25K, 50K, 75K, 100K and so on.
Dealer recomend to change the transmission oil and filter at Maintenace II, at 50K, and the air filter too. Use only DEXRON®-VI Automatic Transmission Fluid.
The dealer sugest to flush the radiator every 75K and use 50/50 mixture with distilled water, and use only DEX-COOL. I recommend to flush every 50K.

Type of engine oil

Manufacturer calls for a 10w 30 oil. In all my Jeeps I run a 10w 40 oil with a container of lucas oil stabilizer. (I get way over 300K from all my engines)
I use synthetics though because the pour point is actually much lower than the 10 number and the protection actually is greater than the 40 number at temp, and the oil is practically immune to thermal breakdown.
As far as change intervals, you can change it at between 3,000 and 4,000 miles, with synthetics you can go actually as far as 10,000 miles with a filter change at the mid point. Most people are comfortable just going 5,000 and changing it though.
Filters are important as well...use a filter with the smallest micron rating and the largest internal surface area you can find.
There are as many opinions on oil and change intervals as there are pages in "war and peace" but I have done extensive research in this area due to my involvement in extreme horsepower (over 7,000hp) race engines. Though the oil in those is changed after every 1/4 mile pass, the properties of any lubricant are tested way beyond any normal limits.
The bottom line being, that synthetics last, conventional oils just don't.
And don't' forget....the race mobile has to be towed everywhere....used synthetics in the truck as well!!!
Good luck with your Jeep!!!

What type of oil and brake fluid do I need for the 2002 Mitsubishi Galant?

If U look in your owners manual it tells U that type of stuff. If U don't have the manual for the oil it should tell on the dip stick. For the brake fluid its more than likely DOT 3 fluid.

Hope this helps
