Hi have you changed your fuel filter lately? That would be where i would start first, other causes could be fuel pump or blocked fuel lines, but i would start with a new fuel filter as thats the easiest, cheapest option

SOURCE: check engine light on in 2001 subaru outback - car

If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.

A solid light can mean anything from a loose/faulty gas cap to a transmission issue.

This light comes on when the computer detects a fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has detected that the issue may no longer be present.

In order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have caused the light to initially turn on.

SOURCE: Fuel Filter for a 2005 Subaru Outback

In 2005 Subaru moved the fuel filters to the fuel tank for both 4-cyl and 6-cyl cars. What is confusing is the statement in the owner's manual about replacement intervals; the statement actually only applies to 4-cyl cars. Even though the filter is mounted in the tank, this is still a replaceable element on 4-cyl, but not on 6-cyl. The 6-cyl filter element is part of the entire fuel pump assembly (a $300 assembly) and is not sold separately. Therefore the 6-cyl filter is intended to be a "lifetime" part, which really means it gets replaced when the fuel pump fails and the entire pump assembly is replaced.

Sounds as if your fuel pressure regulator has gone bad. You didn't say what codes the O2 sensors tripped. I would change the regulator before chasing down the sensor code. I hope this helps. Take care.

Code p0340, p0462 on subaru outback 2001

Po340 is a cam shaft sensor and po462 is low voltage on your fuel guage. So i assume you are haveing fuel level issues. If you can turn wrenches you can do these repairs yourself. Just do a google search and you can get some youtube videos of sensor replacement and location. Have fun.

Hello,i bought a subaru outback 2002 from 3 months.and it's consuming more gas than normal.(130km/20 litre) could you please tell me what i have to change? and what is the normal consumption for this...

REPLACE AIR FILTER.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS,CHECK TIRE PRESSURE.LOW TIRE PRESSURE WILL CAUSE LOT OF FUEL CONSUMPTION.CITY DRIVING WILL BURN LOT MORE GAS,STOPPING VECHICLE THEN GOING WILL CAUSE MORE GAS BURNING, YOU NEED POWER AND FUEL TO GET VECHICLE IN MOTION,BY IT BEING HOT WEATHER, USING AIR CONDITIONING TO KEEP COOL INSIDE WILL CAUSE MORE FUEL CONSUMPTION.

It is rare for a fuel pump to wear out. The pump is flooded with petrol as it operates and this lubricates the rollers and cools the motor. However if the pressure from the pump is low, this will have an effect on the cars' performance. Incorrect fuel rail pressure will affect all the things you mention, yes. Have the fuel pump pressure tested and adjusted to spec. A good move would be to service the air flow sensor Goto [ http://arraw.info/pdf/mas.pdf ] for details

Hesitation on accelearation

Is the car giving you a check engine light? If so you will need to take it to a mechanic to check the codes. Some common causes of hesitation are:

Low fuel pressure - caused by a bad fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator

EGR valve - make sure the EGR valve is working properly. You can test it with a vacuum pump and make sure it holds air. Also you could have a plugged EGR passage.

Good luck and keep me posted. Thanks - Tech101
