If you unlplugged the temp sensor so the fans will run the cars computer cant read engine temp and will call for to much fuel which will run good when cold but bad when warmed up

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/joe_a3369546f8067589

SOURCE: 2000 chevy lumina. Is fan supposed to come on when car started

no fan comes on when engine cold start up .but it will come on when you turn on air conditioning or defrost on .if engine idling a while when temp get 190 degree the fan will kick on.if over heating you got air in system .wait until cools check coolant add more .crank engine let it idle few. minutes when start warming up turn off engine wait a while before removing radiator cap so you wont get scald.add more coolant .crank it again starting warming up turn off engine wait a while .add coolant .keep doing this procedure until your coolant stop dropping off .if you do this more than 6 times you got a leak some where.check crank level for signs.if oil level higher than normal.if everything looking good.when engine cool make sure add coolant to over flow jug cold level mark.

If you have done this already, then bleed the cooling system, this is all you lack, just get the air out of the system, two bleed ports, one on the thermostat housing, and one on the engine near the water pump, just bleed them out as the car warms up,the thermostat bleeder last,if this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

How do I determine if the thermostat is bad on a 1999 Lumina?

The thermostat has nothing to do with the cooing fan functioning. I would start with the electric fan itself, then to the fan relay, then to the fan thermostatic switch.

Car was overheating replaced the thermostat now the heat isnt blowing hot and the car is over heating worse it's a mitsubishi galante

Could be that fan is not kicking on. check and make sure it is connected. could also be a vapor lock. some cars require bleeding water system and if so most bleeding screws are located around thermostat housing. Call local autozone and ask if your car requires bleeding water system....NOW the overheating could be from fan not kicking on and the best way to find out is to turn on defrost and if fan is working it will kick on automaticaly. If it does kick on then this shows that fan is working fine but this does not mean that fan is running properly. The fan is controlled by a heat sensor which kicks the fan on when motor reaches a curtain heat range. If this sensor is not working it will cause car to overheat.... Could be also that waterpump is bad.Not all waterpumps leak when they go bad.Sometimes the impeler on the waterpump which is what moves water through the system simply stops working and this would cuase it to overheat.......hope this info helps and good luck...Please rate my post and if you need more info fill free to contact me...Need to find where leak is coming from also for this is more than likely the problem........

Trying to find thermostat can you help

Not Familiar with vehicle but can give you some basic info. The Thermostat could be on top or bottom of engine. It is in a bell shaped housing, follow the Hoses from the Radiator. If you get heat when the Engine shows warm and you don't overheat it's not the Thermostat. If your not getting heat check the level of coolant first. If coolant is low you wont get heat or low heat.If your overheating it could be other problems,Blown Head Gasket.Clogged Radiator, insufficient coolant.Good Luck.

I have 95 Chevy Lumina. March 2010 I had water pump, head gaskets, intake gaskets, thermostat replaced. Unfortunately I am having same problems as I did before all these parts were replaced. How can this...

Was the car over heating before the water pump and head gaskets were replaced? Putting in a new Radiator will make it run even colder.and take even way longer than the one hour it is already taking to warm up.The computer in the car commands the engine cooling fan On/Of at a predetermined temperature. It receives this data from monitoring engine sensors such as the engine coolant temperature sensor. So if it is defective and the computer is not recognising the defect it thinks that the engine is running hot when it is realy running cold and will command that the cooling fan be on.Resulting in the fan running in 24-7 as you put it. If you want the engine to warm up faster and the cooling fan to operate normaly then I would replace the engine coolant temperature sensor and the relay for the fan circuit as well. If you need to talk to me further about this you can use the reply box below. Please let me know how this goes for you and I hope this is usefull for you. Good Luck and have a good XMASS.

I have a 1999 chevy lumina and it overheats when i am just idling and the ac is on.

This problem can be caused by a faulty cooling fan, lack of coolant circulation thru the radiator ( bad water pump, partially closed thermostat) or a partially clogged radiator. Make sure the radiator and condenser in front of the radiator are not full of dirt and clogging the air flow also.
