My overdrive light is flashing indicating the overdrive is off

My 2002 Explorer has always been in overdrive since I bought it, recently the light started flashing that it is out and I have no idea why? I need to find out how to get it back in overdrive? It is an automatic and now when I need to excelerate quickly it revs up and has a delay.

I have the exact same problen with the exact same year make and model. Has Sally Fredsa solved her problem yet?

I have the same problem on my 2002 Explorer. My overdrive light has been on the past 2 days, and it doesn't want to switch to 2nd gear. This morning my check engine light came on and is now staying on. I got a diagnostic test done today, and the options it could be is low fluid, poor electrical connection, failed pressure control solenoid and last a blocked passage. My question is, to narrow the problem down, is how do you check the trannie fluid when there is no dipstick and where can I begin to look for the electrical connection. My o/d is at the end of the gearshift lever. Any help would be appreciated, since I was told the codes are very accurate but gives you a few things that could be the problem and you have to go through the process of elimination. If I can rule at least 2 of these out or if one of these will fix it, then less money for the repair, the better.

This could mean there is a problem with the transmission, but most times when OD light is flashing it is because the wiring to the OD switch is broken.
is the OD switch on the end of the gear shift lever ?
or does your vehicle have the shifter on console between seats ?

2002 ford explorer xlt 4.0 liter auto 4x4 O/D light flashing fixed on mine. Turned out to be a 32.00 vehicle speed sensor located on top of rear differential.

Why my 2002 ford explorer overdrive flashing

The overdrive light flashes when the transmission has a fault/ problem and stores a code in the computer. Unless you are a professional mechanic I would seek one to diagnose your concern.

Had the engine replaced in my 99 explorer and now the overdrive light keeps flashing

The overdrive light also serves as the "check engine" light but for the transmission. If its flashing it means the computer recognizes a problem with the transmission or its electronics. If the engine was just replaced, they probably forgot to plug something in, or some wiring got damaged in the engine swap. It can be scanned with a scan tool for a code and the code will indicate what circuit is at fault.

O/d light flashing on 1995 Ford explorer. Started

You should have the computer self tested by someone with a scan tool. The flashing overdrive light indicates a concern with the transmission. Self testing the computer should produce a fault code and give you some idea of what is wrong.

My overdrive light blinks on and off on my 2002 explorer

when the OD lights flashes it means that a fault has occured in the transmission, to see what it is you will need the dealer to test the transmission for a fault code that is set in memory when the light starts flashing.

Overdrive Off light keeps flashing. Vehicle is a Ford Explorer '96.

If your overdrive off light keeps flashing this indicates an electrical or mechanical fault has occurred with your transmission and a diagnostic code has been stored in your trucks on board computer. The stored codes can be read by diagnostic scanner and will aid in making a diagnosis of the problem that is occurring.

Overdrive light flashing

Have a good look at your brakes, oil system and the gear oil guage.

There's a mechanical fault.

My overdrive

the OD light flashing indicates that the transmission control module has observed a fault. Take the car to a local aftermarket parts place and get the codes pulled (typically free) this will send you in the right direction regarding a repair.

Overdrive light

it is probably the vehicle speed sensor. Tells computer how fast the car is going so it will shift at proper time. A tech with a scan tool can run the EEC test and read the codes and tell you if it's the speed sensor. easy repair. Buy speed sensor on Ebay

My overdrive light is flashing on and off

The O/D light flashing is an indication of a transmission electrical fault. The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the electronic sensors and actuators on the engine and PCM. If it finds a fault on these circuits, it will alert the driver. Since the O/D light is flashing, the fault is specific to the transmission. You'll will need to have the codes checked in the PCM before any repairs are attempted.
