What does exhaust smell like you may have carbon build up in engine try removing o2 sensors and cleaning with brake clean and reinstalling reset code and see if it comes back and how long it takes to reset also you can put a can of berryman in the gas tank with at least 1/2 tank of gas or more also buy a can of sea foam and install through vacuum booster hose you may see lots of black smoke from tail pipe if so after following instructions for application drive some what hard and if the black smoke continues fore at least a mile keep driving and if you notice a diff in runability but still have a little black smoke buy another can of sea foam and repeat service NAPA has sea foam on sale this month

P0171' p0174 96 buick roadmaster 5.7

System Too Lean P0171
Clean the MAF sensor and IAC valve with MAF cleaner
Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace/repair as required.
Inspect all hoses and connections in the air intake system.
Inspect and/or test the intake manifold gaskets for leakage.
Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure.

As a last resort, replace O2 sensor

System Too Lean P0174
Error code P0174 is described as System Too Lean (Bank 2). This means there is incorrect ratio of air and fuel on the car's engine system, specifically on Bank 2 of the Cylinder. “Too Lean” means there is too much oxygen in the exhaust.

As a last resort, replace O2 sensor

Have a 2000 ford explorer 4.o showed code po174 replaced both sensors on pasenger exauhst still floods now shows p1152 what should i do next i can also unplug the throttle position sensor plug while r

The p0174 is a lean code for bank 2, possible vacuum leak on the intake area cause of problem, check all vacuum lines and hoses, pcv valve and hose assembly, also could be upper intake gaskets worn

Code 1150 on a 1997 ford f 150 with a 4.2 motor

I will try to paste an article for you. Several sources indicate this is a Bank 2 O2 sensor problem and that it is failing to switch and adjust for the fuel mix. But as you can see, many defects can lead up to this O2 sensor Code 1150.

I would try to use a spray bottle of water and go around the Intake manifold and spray the water while the engine is running. An intake leak will draw water into the engine and change RPM.

If no success then try changing the O2 bank 2 sensor. You may need to wipe the computer and clear the Code. H40 DTCs P1131, P1132, P1151 AND P1152: UPSTREAM HO2S NOT SWITCHING. DTC P1130: FUEL SYSTEMicon1.png NOT SWITCHING AT FUELicon1.png TRIM (RICH OR LEAN)
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P1131 bank 1 (Cylinder 1) and P1151 bank 2 indicate the fuel/air ratio is correcting rich for an overly lean condition. The HO2S voltage is less than 0.45 volt. DTCs P1132 bank 1 (Cylinder 1) and P1152 bank 2 indicate the fuel/air ratio is correcting lean for an overly rich condition. The HO2S voltage is greater than 0.45 volt.
DTC P1130 and P1150 indicate the fuel control system has reached maximum compensation for a lean or rich condition and the HO2S is not switching.
DTC/HO2S Reference List
•HO2S-11 = DTCs P1131, P1132 and P1130
•HO2S-21 = DTCs P1151, P1152 and P1150
Possible causes:
Fuel system
•Excessive fuel pressure.
•Leaking fuel injector(s).
•Leaking fuel pressure regulator.
•Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel.
•Contaminated fuel injector(s)
•Vapor recovery system
Induction system
•Air leaks after the MAF.
•Vacuum leaks (vacuum lines and gaskets).
•Restricted air inlet.
•PCV system.
•Improperly seated engineicon1.png oil dipstick.
EGR System
•Leaking gasket.
•Stuck open EGR valve.
•Leaking diaphragm.
Base engine
•Oil overfill.
•Cam timing.
•Cylinder compression.
•Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2Ss.
•Check intake air system for leaks, obstructions and damage.
•Check air cleaner element, air cleaner housing for blockage.
•Verify integrity of the PCV system.
•Check for vacuum leaks. user_online.gif quote.gif post_old.gif )

I have 99 Chevy Malibu. My check engine light came on. The original codes were for a cylinder misfire and a small emissions leak. I replaced the injector for the cylinder that was misfiring as well as all...

well if you get it scanned again, and you get a lean bank 1 and 2 code then you may have a intake manifold gasket thats leaking. I just worked on a van that had them codes. and I ended up changing the intake manifold gaskets to get it to pass the emissions test for inspection, I live in new york state, po171 and p0174 are the lean codes. we did the maf sensor, new 02 sensors, egr valve and still got this lean code. good-day and god blessyou. it was on a 99 ford windstar van.

1998 Ford Windstar 3.8L ScanTool says that Bank 1 is lean

if your getting oil in the air filter area, you have a leaking intake gasket or a leaking head gasket, run a compression test on it,
if the compression is where it should be on all cylinders then its a leaking intake gasket!!!

I have a 2004 Ford expedition, does it have a PCV valve? If not what is it called and where is it located?

The PCV valve is going the way of the carburetor, they are being phased out by "most" companies. If you can't find it, most likley it's not there. Thank you, Dana

Bank 1 & 2 running lean

The lean condition is caused from the upper intake gaskets and isolation bolts not sealing properly due to time and poor sealing qualities from the factory ther was a service bulliten for this through ford to replace the gaskets, bolts, vaccum line, and lh side valve cover for this concern the oil was getting onto the rubber contaminating it causing a vaccum leak. If you never had the tsb done i would start there, also if there is high milleage on the vehicle i would also clean the maf sensor and resedt kam.
