The car is a 2002 bmw 330 ci conv. The indash navigation, tv, radio, cd, and screen not working. All controls on head unit are dead and the screen is blank. The hand controls on the steering wheel work the radio and the blue tooth. All fuses are good in trunk and in glove compartment. BMW dealer wants $4,000.00 to replace both front head unit and trunk unit. It can't be both. How do I tell whats wrong? Any good ideas?
I have a 330 ci bmw i just put a alternator in belt and a new battery, now my radio and screen is not working the screen is blank and no sound. what couldit be?
Hello There.
Thats an interesting one. My first suggestion would be to look at the DVD navigation unit in the trunk, does it have any sign of life, i.e will it eject the map dvd is there a blinking redlight etc, if there is nothing then thats most likely your problem if there life in it then I would suggest having a closer look at all the connections in the trunk. You need to remove the side cover in the trunk and check the connections.
If the above doesn't help, my guess would be your head unit has the fault.
The cheapest way to get this repaired is by process of elimination. If you think the DVD unit in the trunk is faulty I would buy one from ebay if you find this doesn't solve your problem you can always resell it on ebay without losing money and the same with your head unit.
Hope this helps. Good Luck.
If my answer has helped you, please rate me on Fixya.
Many Thanks.

Thanks for the input. The DVD unit in the trunk, looks and sounds like it is working. The lED blinks and you can here the CD moving. I had pulled all covers in trunk and checked all connections for Nav, TV, Radio, and Sat all connections were good. what next?
My problem is very similar to yours but... does your dvd eject??
My dvd does not eject even though i can hear it spinning.
The screen was not working but i did have radio/cd sound and the steering controls worked perfectly. The fuel cons./range etc. all worked well on my dash.
I went to a bmw "specialist" and he just disconnected the Mk4 unit in the boot and connected again and... the screen works fine, but the navigation function said there was no dvd in unit.
It needs to be said that everything happened because i inserted a dvd copy of a original 2005-1 dvd that worked fine.
The dvd still doesen't eject.
They have taken the dvd out by openning the unit and refited everything and... now you can't insert any dvd.
My guess is the dvd drive (witch is a smaller dvd drive inside the mk4 unit, and therefore replaceable) is damaged. If this is the case, and providing that it is possible to replace the bad part by going to somewere else than bmw, it doesn't seem to difficult or expensive.
I HOPE!!!
I appreciate your expert help, thank you
My car is a 2005 e46 320d touring with Hi Nav system and mk4 unit
