This is a random choice for your engine. You would really need the model and probably the serial to get the correct specs. The Perkins Model AD3.152 engine used in Massey Ferguson 135 tractors built between 1968 and 1975 had the following torque specs. 45 hp 1211 ft pounds of torque at 1300 RPM Max RPM was 2000
to change the points to electronic you will need to get the manufacturer of the distributor and contact them for a compatible electronic kit to replace the points or replacement distributor
to fit an alternator , get one with an internal voltage regulator ( talk with an auto electrician for the best unit --it is not necessary to go big amperage units so one about 35-60 amps will suffice and cheaper as well)
wiring will be the same as will fuses (neither volt sensitive)
gauges will have to be changed to 12 volt units
bulbs changed from 6 volt to 12 bulbs and switches will be the same as they are no volt sensitive
basically the same circuit can be used and the only place to be careful is the alternator wire to the battery and the charge light or volt gauge ( auto electrician can advise here )
starter motor will have to be changed to 12 volts and you will again have to get the replacement unit from an auto electrician as the bendix pitch , movement and mounting neck will be critical
wisconsin did not make electrical components but used off the shelf companies such as delco remy, lucas , bosch, ac etc for the accessories to the engine
it is an interesting project so collect as much information from auto electricians and web sites to help you
You can't just replace the brushes in the starter, It's binding up, what about the bushings, what about the armature, what about the bendix, did you check that stuff, your putting new parts in a old starter that is worn out, it's a lot easier to buy a complete unit with a warranty, save yourself the headach, fork out the money for a good starter, not Autozone, checkers, ect. unless you want to change the starter more than once.
Perkins is a hard engine to prime. Fill the fuel filter with clean diesel, there should be a hand pump on the left side(looking at the front of the vehicle) . There should be a bleed screw on top of the filter housing. Loosen the bleed srew and pump the hand pump untill you get a steady stream of fuel from it. Tighten the bleed screw. Loosen the injector bonnet nuts approximately 1 1/2 turns on all of the injectors. Turn the engine over until you see a steady stream of fuel from the the injector bonnets. Tighten the bonnet nuts, pump the handpump approx 10 times and start the engine. Give it half throttle until it stops stumbling and all of the air is worked out of the system.
