It have a 1994 crown victoria it ran out of gas I put 5 gallons of gas in it, when I turned the motor over it started right up, it ran for about a minute and a half then quit. I changed the filter, checked the fuel pump, getting fuel up to the injecters, when you spray starting fluid on air filter will try to run as soon as it's gone it just cranks and cranks. What is wrong?

Air in the fuel line. Take one small wire off the starter relay and turn and hold the key in the start position for a while. Listen for the fuel pump. It will run fast for a second then slow down. When it does, put the wire back on the starter relay and crank the engine.

check to see that you have fuel all the way to the engine.to do this: pull the fuel pump fuse and, crank the engine a few times to releive pressure then open the fuel line, cover it with a rag for safety then: replace the fuse and, crank the engine just for a second or, two if no fuel comes out it's another fuel filter probably on the truck frame rail that is the problem or, low pressure from the fuel pump

SOURCE: 2000 Crown Vic cranks but won't start.

Check the fuel pump reset switch again, if it is popped back out then replace that little switch in the trunk, any ford one will do. it works off a magnet and a bearing to close the circuit for the fuel pump. easy fix.

SOURCE: 2001 expedition cranks but wont start

If the engine cranks over normally when you attempt to start you car, but the engine does not start, the problem may be NO FUEL, NO SPARK or NO COMPRESSION. The engine needs adequate fuel pressure, a properly timed spark and normal compression to start.

1) To find why the engine won't start, remove the air inlet tube from the throttle body, push the throttle open and spray a small amount of aerosol starting fluid into the engine. Crank the engine. If it has spark and compression but NO FUEL, it will start and run a few seconds before dying. If it does NOT start, it probably has NO SPARK.

2)Another method to check for spark is to pull a spark plug wire off of a spark plug (if it has plug wires, coil-on-plug ignitions do not) and place the open end of the plug wire near a metal surface on the engine. Have a helper crank the engine while you watch for a spark. DO NOT hold the wire while doing this as it can shock you. If you see a spark, the problem is not spark, but most likely NO FUEL or NO COMPRESSION. If you do not see a spark, the problem is in the IGNITION CIRCUIT.

3)Proper fuel pressure is critical for fuel injected engines to start and run. You should hear the fuel pump inside the fuel tank buzz for a couple of seconds when the ignition is turned on (no buzz means the pump is not running and the engine is not getting fuel). You can smell the tailpipe for gasoline vapors after cranking the engine. If you smell gas, the problem is likely not fuel but NO SPARK. You can also remove the plastic cap and press the schraeder valve test fitting on the fuel rail to see if there is any fuel pressure to the engine (not a very accurate test because fuel pressure must be at a certain level for the engine to start, for that you need a gauge). Even so, no fuel at the fuel rail would tell you fuel is not getting to the engine..

To start with, stop using the spray because this is not good for a fuel injected vehicle and you can cause damage to the valves if you continue to do so. Carbs were different in the old days. OK, you may have just caused the fuel pump to try and work a little harder due to being out of gas. There is a fuel cut off switch that will "pop" if you are in an accident or there is an electrical overload. that switch is located in the cargo area od the vehicle. below is a picture of its location for you and the button is on top. Just push it in. If it is "pooped" you will be able to tell for sure when you push it in. Also you may want to check the fuse for the fuel pump motor itself. that fuse is located in the fuse panel under the hood of the vehicle in the engine compartment. The fuse is located in the number 5 position and should be a 15 amp fuse (diagram of fuse layout below). And last is to check the fuel pump relay as well. the relay is located in that same fuse panel and is in the number 207 position. You can check if it is engaging by putting your finger on it and having someone tur the key just to the "on"position (no need to turn the vehicle over as it will engage for 3 - 5 seconds when the key is turned on). You will feel it "click" if it does with your finger. One other thing is if any of these are the problem, you should first prime the fuel system before trying to start the vehicle. this is done by again turning the vehicle key to the "on" position only, wait for 3 - 5 seconds then to the off positiom, turn the key back to the "on" position agian for the same amount of time. Do this several times so the fuel system will build back pressure before trying to start the vehicle. OK, I'm done. I hope this helps and you get going again. Good luck.

How big is the gas tank on a 1992 ford crown vic. how many miles to the gallon. my gas gauge doesnt work. so i dont know anything about the gas.

1992 Ford Crown Vic 4.6 L V8 Automatic

Fuel tank capacity is 20 gallons (US).

Your fuel consumption will be affected by many factors, such as :
- how you drive the vehicle
- the condition and tune of the motor
- driving conditions (traffic, city use, highway use etc)
- tire pressures
- type and grade of fuel used .

It is impossible for me to estimate what fuel consumption you can expect from your own particular car without a whole lot of information.

It's unwise to run the vehicle for long with no working fuel gauge.
