gee, most modern cars cut out all things not needed to crank and start an engine, ever start a car at -29deg F?
bingo why is that,if the engine is slow to start, it needs all the power it can find in the battery 500CCA?
or does crank up means after engine starts, called RUNNING the engine, and or driving.
I say the radio was installed fully wrong..
wire it to the cars radio fuse or cars , IGNition SWITCH Acc LUG..
tthere can be 2 power wires,
one is memory, pin on radio an goes to fuses HOT all the time
the other power wire, to RAD goes to radio fuse or to IGN ACC lug.
DId you pull the radio out of the dash and check for battery voltage at the connectors pluged into the back of the radio ? Check battery voltage with a DVOM - digital volt ohmmeter . There are things here you probably will not have a clue about .
Radio Circuit Operation
Radio Power
The radio is supplied power by a fused B+ circuit. The radio does not use a discrete ignition feed circuit for power moding. The power mode master (PMM) provides the system power mode to the radio via serial data messages. The PMM determines the system power mode by processing power mode information from ignition switch inputs. Serial data power modes supported by the radio are OFF, ACCESSORY, RUN, and CRANK REQUEST. The power mode master is the BCM - body control module .
Radio Data Link Communication
The radio communicates with other modules via serial data.
The first thing to do would be hook up a factory or someother type professional scan tool an check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes
hello ,
wont crank or cranks fast but wont start.? (2 different answers)
you must tell the helper all things that work or dont work
that is how electrics function, by branches .
1: head lights work high and low beams. ( dim or dead?)
2; heater fan work on high?
3: radio.
4: cluster glows those warning lamps as all do key on (y/n)
5;cranks
6: interior lamps dead, my guess you mean the dome lamps.?
try to be more clear as to which of the many lamps inside are dead.
7: if its a no crank, car, say so, and check for green battery lugs
we clean them , if not corroded ,then we next jump start the car
using jumper cables, per instructions on the box.
is car automatic trans?
if yes and wont crank try cranking in Neutral not park.
step on brake /and key on, and shift to N.
then crank.
first thing to do is get the car not to crank and check for power to the starter. if the starter has battery power and signal from the ignition switch then the problem is the starter. second thing is to check the plug at the trans range switch. the connector may be loose since you just had the trans repaired. ground may be an issue but not likely since the dash lights and other things work. GOOD LUCK.
