96 Jaguar xj6 Electrical Issues

I am having some electrical issues with my 1996 Jaguar XJ6.
1.The tail lights automatically come on when I start the car and dont light up when I apply the brakes
2. When I open the door all the locks jump up and down three times before they stay stationary..relay problem ?
3. The electric antenna will no longer go up-could the motor be burnt out ?

Anyone with even an answer to one of these questions would be appreciated, thanks

The brake light may or may not be connected the the door problem but I would start with checking the ground wires. i have had a problem with the door lock relay and if that is blown the car will not start.
The antenna is just **** , they get dirty and just stop going up and down.

HI, I NEED YOUR OPINION PLEASE. I NEED A RELIABLE AND ECONOMIC CAR. I WANT TO BUY A PONTIAC SUNFIRE '96 SEDAN, 122000 MILES. IS THIS A GOOD CAR? THANKS..

that is an poorly built vehicle. They have electrical issues, as well as reliability issues. Maybe a 96 camry/corolla will be a better opt. I have a 96 camry with 220K miles and never had any issues. Hopefully this helpd

Starting issue with 1994 jaguar xj6

Had similar problem which ended up being the Park Gear selection position. Do you get a beep noise when out of gear? What about when in park. Although my car was in Park, it needed wiggling out a little while turning the ignition to get it to crank and has been this way ever since.
Also had a Sovereign with an immobiliser that gave me the same no start problems some times, no solution other than an expert auto electrician for that.

My tail lights will not stay on. They keep going out.As a matter of fact, i don't think they come on at all now.

You may have blown a fuse or two. Have you checked fuses?

RH Tail, Number plate = C7 RH box
LH Tail, Number plate = C7 LH box

RH Reverse, Rear Fog = B8 RH box
LH Reverse, Rear Fog = B8 LH box

burnt diodes on the back of the dash can give this fault also, have somebody check the electrical contacts...

96 Park Ave has major electrical issues. ac, power

I think you may want to have the battery looked at first. As for that noise. you may have a automatic leveling and that would be the pump kicking on and off.

My trunk on my xj6 wont open at all.

The last Jaguar on which I corrected this problem had a nut loosen on the lock mechanism. I took out the rear seat and then the parcel shelf covering and then cut an access hole into the trunk.
That was a 1987 XJ6. I am not certain that you have similar access due to fuel tank location. If you take this on, be aware of that possibility.

Something electrical is draining battery on 1987 XJ6;

Have you checked the alternator? The alternator may not be charging the battery. With engine running, check the voltage at the battery (it should be ~14V). If it's less than that, your battery won't charge properly. You can take your alternator to auto store to have it load tested also to be sure. Sometime alternator issues don't show up until it gets hot. Defective alternators have also been known to drain the battery after the car has stopped.

96 Jaguar xj6 Electrical Issues

I forgot to mention about the locks. Mine does the same thing...jumps three times. This is an indicator that one of the locks on the circuit is not functioning properly. Mine happens to be the right front but it could be any door including the boot lid.

The antenna could be a burnt motor; however, my 1987 XJ6 had the same issue. One day it came up just a bit and I was able to slowly coax it fully out. After I got it out, I took some olive oil and lubricated it just a bit--not a heavy lubrication--and it worked well after that although it would still sometimes stick.
