Check wiring and connectors from vehicle speed sensor to computer and also wiring from computer to instrument panel.

SOURCE: 1999 Subaru Legacy Sedan.. speedometer works

I finally fixed mine, on my 1999 Subaru legacy 30th anniv edition. . .

I removed the speedometer head, and resoldered the green connector on the board. Then I also ran a wire to duplicate the trace wire from the middle pin to the first connect (about 4mm). Problem gone.

1999 Subaru Legacy GT 30th anniv speedo inoperative @ times

1) most of the problem with speedometer is a) noises b) inacurrate reading c) not operating at all.
Most of the time you can fix it by lubricating the cable with approved lubricant. In another cases can be replaced. Some time is the bushing .
Is possible to short out wire while reaching behind the instrument panel. Disconnect the battery negative cables before removing the speedometer cable assembly. Of course you must test the SENSOR. see the diagram
God bless you

1990 Legacy: speedometer not working...

The first thing you can always do is check your fuses. there might a blown fuse that need replacement. The 1990 Legacy has a mechanical speedometer . The speed sensor is a read switch in the speedometer head itself. So if your speedometer is functioning ( needle working properly ) then the internal read switch is defective. That requires replacing the entire speedometer OR it can be a defective connection between the speedometer and the ECU.If the speedometer is not working, then you can have a defective speedometer, cable, speedometer cable adapter ( on the tranny ) or internal speedo gear in the tranny. Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

1995 Subaru Legacy. Speedometer stopped working

It's probably your speedo head, the gauge itself. I put several used ones in our car to no avail. When I finally went to the dealer they needed to know my cars serial numbers then sold me a gauge that matched my car. Sounds goofy but it worked! I didled with this problem for over a year on and off before that.

I have a 99 subaru legacy outback trans slip

cheak your fluid level in your transmission as if it is low it wont go into gear properly you will move it from park or neutral to a gear it can take a while before it will kick into gear if you top up the fluid that should fix the problem if it still does it after this take it to a tranmission specalist and have it serviced as the bands may be streched
