I installed a new radio in my 1998 Honda Passport. Everything works fine with the exception of the dash lights - I've checked the fuses and they are OK. I was very careful with wiring. Any reason the new install would effect the dash lights?
Most factory stereos are wired to the dash dimmer switch. Usually if the dash lights go out after an after market stereo installation, it is because the wire that originally went to the factory stereo is not used for after market stereos. Double check the fuses and ensure the wire that controlled the lights on the factory stereo is not grounding out on something.
I wouldn't do that myself. The wire originally just regulated the power going to the lights on the stereo. Hooking it to another power wire could cause problems. However, if you would like to try this you can always give it a shot and see what happens. Just keep a finger on the wire and if it starts to get warm or hot take it off right away. I do not reccoment it however. I will do some research and see if I can find anything that might be the problem. But if you do try it, let me know what happens!

Thanks for the help Eddge - that makes sense. However, I checked the fuses (all are good) and I was very careful to tape off the end of the unused wire. Is it possible the wire that originally went to the factory stereo is part of a loop and if it's not connect to power, the dash lights do not work? Do I need to connect that wire to power?
I also have the 1998 passport, my stereo was cut out and here is where I stand. I took it to my mech. had them fix the exterior lights which costed 130 but I still have no interior lights of any kind.. now no dash panel lights what so ever, no door lights or over head dome lights any ideas on how to fix.. I figured on buying a dash wiring harness but dont knnow if that would work please help
