Replaced spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, throttle, body positioning sensor and EGR valve. and the only way to keep it alive and working is to floor the gas when in gear and drive like in a race
I'm assuming it's the 2.8, I'm not sure when they started putting the 4.3 V6 in them.
Anyway, a few things come to mind when something won't idle.1. EGR valves. If they are open at idle, it won't idle. It's open at cruising speeds when the engine is warm, but not at idle or full throttle.
2. Idle air controller (IAC): This is a little electrical valve located on the side of the throttle body. It regulates the amount of air that the engine needs to idle at the correct speed. It makes up for stuff like cold temps, being in gear, or having the A/C on at idle. They also get full of junk and jam up, or simply fail electrically. Replacement is extremely simple.
3. Ignition timing. If the timing is late (********), engine vacuum is lowered and it struggles to idle, even without the load of a transmission in gear.
4. Vacuum leaks. Crunchy old vacuum hoses make everything worse.

Spray the intake with carb cleaner to find the vacuum leak. Check where the EGR mounts and the throttle body gasket sense you had both off.

1999 Yukon Start Issue - I have replaced the octopuse, battery, fuel filter, fuel pump, still having problems starting in cold weather, sometimes after a heavy rain.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Wow you have replaced a lot of stuff. Lets go back to the Fuel pump. When you replaced it did you replace the hose between the pump and the sending unit. These are common for splitting. Have you hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to check what pressure you have? It should be real close to 13 psi and should raise to at least 18 or 19 when you pinch off the return line.

check for minor vacuum leak and map sensor, pcv, egr valve

I have a 1991 Cadillac Fleetwood 4.9 120000 miles, I have the same problem. replaced plugs, wires, cleaned throttle body, and O2 sensor and have same problem. Taking it to a GM shop on 02/24/10.

What year is it? What engine? S-10 Blazer or full-size?Temporarily disconnect the egr valve. If it opens for any reason at idle, well, it won't idle, ever.Need more information on year and engine.
