Use only your key to unlock, open the door, then lock and unlock the door again, then get in and start the car. This will reset it. Also, you can disconnect the battery and turn on the light to make sure you drain all the power from the system then reconnect the battery. And you might want to check the battery on your remote.

SOURCE: Could not engage gear at

Sounds like low fluid in the hydraulic clutch system, look under the hood next to the firewall on the drivers side should be a small resevior with a black top. Remove the top and check the level, if it gets even slightly low this problem will occur. it takes dot 3 or 4 brake fluid. If it is not low it could be that your slave cylinder is going bad. Also you may need to change out the fluid in your transmission, recomended at 60,000 mile intervals.

SOURCE: clutch pedal suddenly goes to

I found that having a wood stick on the clutch pedal down to the floor all night (the other end of the stick held by the seat. oh yeah !!! ) would help to ease shifting for the first hour the next morning, then it would come back stiff and hard to engage in gear.

I have a 2002 Lincoln Ls 3.9L V-8 the traction control doesn't dis-engage could this be the switch or a bigger problem?

Hogwash!! The traction control is incorporated with the ABS system and operates using the same sensors. It becomes active when one or more wheel speed sensors determine a slip in traction. If the vehicle is equipped with a traction button for turning off the system and it doesn't turn off, the button may be defective or possibly the control module.A scan test may be required on this module to determine the fault within the system. Your engine will not succumb to any damage. This mechanic needs some more training

How do ii disengage 4 locked 4wd..

Hi Rick:
Depending on the vehicle, there may be externally locking (warn) hubs on the front wheels. These have to be manually dis-engaged at the wheel hubs by rotating a fitting at the center of the hub. Otherwise, there should be a shift lever or switch inside the vehicle that will dis-engage the 4WD

Cruise control wont engage after restarting vehicle

The fact that the light comes on is a good indication that the electronics are working, the most common problem is a vacumn leak. This can be a damaged or cracked vacumn line, a bad check valve, or the dump switch on the brake pedal

1994 Grand Cherokee, 5.2 V8 shuts off when hot. Cool for an hour or 2, starts up after a half hour or so, then dies again. No trouble codes except 12 and 55; I pulled fuses to check them, hence the code...

NOTE: With the jeep cherokees. the Check Engine light if continuously driven with it on for more than 25 minutes whilst still traveling will engage the "PCM self protect" usually around the 27minute mark, and shut down the vehicle, and yes it takes 90 minutes to reset,

you might find that you will arrive ok, at your destination with this issue... pull up, and then it wont start again a few minutes later, this is the PCM Shutdown protection.....when the check engine light is on means the PCM is reset, found the error and why you can only run the car with the check engine light for about half an hour.

"You can however drive and turn the car off and coast in neutral and turn on the vehicle again to buy yourself more time with the "Check Engine time limit shutoff"

happened to me in mine, the error codes never showed up for the crankshaft position sensor
either...

i replaced the crankshaft position sensor under the transmission case, and it got rid of the issue this crank sensor is a common cause of the cherokees , it could no longer read the speed of the crankteeth. and can't get a reading the car is still running hence the shutdown, also you will find it also controls the PCM to engage your second fan on the radiator because it cant tell the vehicle is still running, and causes the PCM to get confused and wont let the rest of the engine function properly ie: coolant sensors, and Thermostat sensors, and you will find it overheats and needs to cool some times...which is why the PCM shutsdown the car.....try the crankshaft position sensor replacement under the transmission it's usually the cause of this on all cherokees "makes no difference if its a V8 or not by the way, same thing happens on 4.0 straight six engines also" .
