Wondering where the idle air control valve is on my 2001 volvo s40..
and if it is hard to replace? And where is it exactly located at?
Thanks!
Your IAC valve, idle air control valve is under the black plastic cover on the front right corner on the engine, remove cover undo valve, renew gasket and re install. ade 13 years volvo tech
Its sitting right up front right side easy to replace star scewdriver and vice grips or pliers to remove plastic cover and start work
Can't believe no one mentioned this -- because it's a very old Volvo trick. Try cleaning the old one first (they get filled with carbon deposits) with carb cleaner ; until the fluid runs clear. Allow it to dry, then refit.

Have a v70 2000 (made 03/2000) 5244s motor... ?
I have a re-occuring idle issue that I thought was linked to the etm, have cleaned the idle air control valve, gasket looks new, green one, and have cleaned the mass air flow meter.. with the proper cleaner maf cleaner.. as directed.. mechanic.. still I have these issues, thanks
1. when driving, I take my foot off accellerator, up and down throttle no lights are on while this is on, etm or check engine
2. When approaching a firm complete stop idle raises as if to engage the car to push me through the stop.. have to press harder to stop..???
3. crappy mileage.. 15 city 20 hwy.. been noticing.. or worse.
4. idle at rest after warmed up is 1000 to 1200 depending on mild fluctuations..
Notes: I cleaned the idle control valve.. with cleaner.. after I did this the idle did a little better..
