2003 BUICK REGAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM.

2003 Buick Regal. Transmission shifts hard at times. Most of the time shifts normally. Shift seems like old speed shift. Hard engagement. Will be normal for a few days and then act up several times on occasional days. Oil and filter changed approximately 1400 mile ago. It was acting same before transmission service and service manager or mechanic said he did not think I had transmission problem. Car did not shift erratic with him. Car has 54,000 miles and has been maintained.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

My transmission seems to shift hard on take off like it slips a gear

Mine does the same thing. It feels like a pause and then kicks in. Never any codes when I have the computer scanned.

Same thing here.... Took it to Aamco for them to diagnose -- need the thing rebuilt. Seems I was given poor maintenance advice. Was told by 3 separate entities when to replace fluid (GM manual, GM dealer, Aamco guys) . Had the fluid replaced at Minit-Lube at 60K. At 100K my problems ALL started when I had the trans pan dropped and the fluid and trans filter replaced. Unknown why this action prompted the issue.

Looking at a complete rebuild for 1800 plus 600 for the 3/36000 warranty on the service. Hell yes it sucks - but I love the car and can not afford 350-450/month to buy a new vehicle...

This is a common problem on some GM cars. There is a pressure control valve in the side cover of the transmission that needs to be replaced. The transmission does not have to be rebuilt. You will need to get a side cover gasket also.

This happen to me when the motor or trans gets hot bumps into second get. I pulled over turned off my car for 5 minutes the started it. Ran normal for awhile. The machanic hooked it the a computer and recalibrated or reset it the it stopped. I gather a computer glitch that developes over time

I have researched this issues for hours online. Almost every answer was the same. Here goes: install a transgo shift kit. It is the cheapest and easiest solution and it solves almost all harsh shifting issues. You can do it yourself. There are many DIY videos online. Also, apparently, the best place to call for help or to go for help is triple edge performance... Good luck to you all and to myself since I am going to be attempting this solution after the holidays...

I have found more times than not the trans fluid is low or to full. Wrong quantity of fluid can severely decrease performance and cause hard shifting and gear slippage. Fluid and filter replacement is a good idea if not done in a while. Hard shifting and gear slippage is not always because of the trans, it could be the feul system or combustion, regular tune ups are very important, plugs and wires do way more than help start the car.

2000 regal won't go out of park

I would think it has something to do with
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System
The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consist of the following components:
• The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid.
• The automatic transmission park lock solenoid (Regal only).
• The automatic transmission shift lock control switch.
• The transmission range switch.

Regal
With the ignition in the ON position, battery positive voltage is supplied to the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The circuit continues through the normally-closed switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control and park lock solenoids. The transmission range switch provides a path to ground in the PARK position. With the automatic transmission shift lock control and park lock solenoids energized the shift lever is locked in the PARK position. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the contacts in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch open. This causes the automatic transmission shift lock control and park lock solenoids to release. This allows the shift lever to move from the PARK position.
Do the brake lights work ? If not could be cause by bad brake light switch .
