I ran over a rock on a dirt road and now there is an exhaust leak for sure but now there is this metal on metal noise when I drive in reverse or in forward. Everything seems to be working fine except

Where the manifold comes off of the engine & curves down under the car to the exhaust pipe.....that coupling is where the leak is coming from now.......but my other question is whether or not there is something up there that could be bent and grinding on something near the tire or..........what? Thanks for any help you can give.....Talk to you soon!

for the exhaust leak now makes the car sound like it has a special exhaust. The steering works, all the power works, heaters work, all the tires roll, starts up just fine, it just has that metal on metal, grinding noise coming from the front area near one of the tires....there is barely any visible damage underneath the car either....I think something is bent up and grinding on something else....not sure though....any ideas? (This was supposed to be the end of the first part, lol!)

Don't drive it. Have it towed for service unless you are fixing it yourself. The exchaust leak is deadly.

SOURCE: knock on left front suspension over bumps and rough roads

Have the sway-bar end-links replaced. They will thunk and rattle over washboard or severe bumps, but will not when wheels are turned and sway-bar is loaded.Fairly cheap and easy repair, no alignment needed.

Revolving, clanking noise when shifted into reverse or drive that disappears at road speed.

I would check the torque converter bolts to make sure they haven't backed out, may possibly be a cracked flex plate also

Popping noises

This is normally a sign of a leaking exhaust valve, it is too tight. the popping is unburned fuel leaking into the exhaust and then exploding with the exhaust from the next firing, sorry but a big job

Check your sway bar links, the two bars at each end of the sway bar, connecting to the lower control arms. Sometimes you can spray them with silicone. Most likely have to replace them. Hope this helps. TJ

It may be just the engine. If you notice that the rpm is not constant you may need to have the IAC cleaned out or the vacuum lines checked for leaks or loose connections. It could also be leaks or holes in the exhaust pipe. When running road noise may have canceled it out.
