2000 Chevy 1500 Z71, Trans acts like its in neutral

Trans was rebuilt around 40,000mi. ago and hasn't acted up at all, it shifts fine, does'nt slip but this morning on my way to work it acted like it was in neutral and the engine wouldn't rev past 1500rpm and was sputtering. I shut truck off and waited a minute and started it back up and it was fine for about 2 miles then it did the same thing. Is there a sensor or computer that's causing this? Torque converter?

Hey RPG, There is a sensor on the side of the output shaft (Speedo).. Mine had become covered with metal crud and would not work,, pulled it out, cleaned it,..(replace the o-ring on the sensor!!) and it ran fine.. This might not work for you, but it did for me. Next.. take it too O'Reilly's, Auto Zone, or Advance Auto and ask the to scan you truck for a trouble code..(free) and see what turns up.. Good Luck..

only diagnostic procedures will find the exact cause. Unless you have the info and the tools to perform this your going to have to have a shop perform this for you.
Guessing only works if your always lucky when you go to Vegas.

SOURCE: This morning my 2000 Z71

May be a problem with the mass air flow sensor located on the air cleaner assembly. Dust particles sometimes collect on the very small resistors on the MAF Sensor. Buy some electronic dust spray you use for computers and spray the resistors. Be carefull not to touch them, they are very sensitive. Thanks.

What could cause a 2002 Chevy trailblazer to go into limp mode

the t/b and envoys have known trans problems 1 is torque converter other is sun gear /basket failure --the diesel would cause rough and some performance issues but not really tranny problems have vehicle scanned for trouble codes also the 4x4 module causes headaches such as going into neutral or 4x4 on its own

I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 z71 it has a 4l60-e trans want shift out of 1st gear until around 5500rpms and you hold it and will not shift out of 2nd gear when in 2nd gear and when I try to drop down...

If you have used the vehicle like that for as little as
a few days, you stand little chance of saving the trans
from a complete rebuild

You need a trans shop or a place you like & trust to
road test & diagnose

I think your beyond a solenoid or module fix, since
you have been using it & it slips as well ,instead of
proper shifting

'01 chevy prizm a.trans. only works in low and reverse/how to fix

Why would you change fluid if the old fluid was BLACK

The trans is burnt,is that new to you

Has to be rebuilt or a reman installed

From now on you change the fluid in all your
vehicles every 3 years to avoid that

Trans Fluid remove HEAT
That is why you change it

It doesn't fix a thing & should make it slip worse

Solenoids usually set a code that can be checked with a code reader.
Make sure that the oil in your transmission is full and clean...solenoids can get gummed up by varnish if trans is not serviced properly.
