SOURCE: 01 dodge 1500 4x4 Transfer case / transmission problem

check the rear differential as well as the transfer case...you may have broken something in both of them...i have seen it happen...since 4low uses a different gear it is possible for it to move in low and not 4 high

SOURCE: Grinding in and out of 4 wheel drive

You say 'new' truck, 09? or new used? I have had 3 Fords, 3 w/ manual trans. case, if you go into 4x4 Low range, you must come to a complete stop before shifting the trans. case to 4x4 mode, and I always put trans (automatic) in neutral before slipping into 4x4, it engages smoothly, no grinding. 4x4 high range can be put in while moving, but I would let off the gas pedal, shift to 4x4 high range, then resume accelerating. If there is any grinding going on doing it as above, something isn't right. Check the trans. case fluid level also, to make sure that's not an issue.

My 2000 land rover discovery 2 sd model will not engage into 4 wheel drive and the engaging handle has no pressure at all?

Your DII is (always) in 4 wheel drive. There is NO 2x wheel drive option on a DII, it's always in 4x4 high, or low. To select 4-wheel drive low, put your transmission in neutral and pull down the high low gear selector.

How does the 4x4 drive work

normaly you drive in 2 wheel dive rear whee lls driving jeep
when you select 4 wheel high or 4 wheel low you engage all 4 wheels bring intthe front axle and all 4 wheels drive high box for slippery roads ice snow etc
important low box only for extreme conditions such as heavy mud deep snow etc
LOW MUST BE SELECTED WHEN STOPPED OTHER WISE DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION
hope this helps

Will not go in 4 low 4x4 lights start blinking after trying . reset light by unhooking battery . then goes in 4 high normelly but not 4 low. i thlnk auto 4 is working 4 liter SOHC 1998

Normally 4 wheel drive HIGH is engaged on the fly or as you are moving more than 10 km per hour or 10 miles per hour but 4 wheel drive LOW is engaged at around 3 to 5 mph. no more or you could ruin the transfer case. Try going from 2 high to 4 high by switching back and forth and then try 2 high to 4 low when idling along. What usually happens is the mechanics under the car freeze up or rust up and you have to switch back and forth to free it up.

Just got H 2 2005 4 buttons 4 the 4 wheel drive

Use 2 wheels, the other 4wd low ,for climbing at slow speeds: 4wd high, for driving on low traction roads, like mud or snow,at medium speeds: 4wd auto full time all wheel drive, for highway speeds on slippery surfaces, like rain or light snow.
