Seems to miss at highway cruising speed

3.1 liter - I have run injector cleaner through it and have tried running a full tank of mid-grade gas. At highway speed (100-110 KPH) in Drive and 3rd there is a repeated hesitation - RPMs about 2000. If I accelerate, it downshifts smoothly and does not hesitate again until I idle down and sit again around 2000 RPM

    rough idle and eng dies

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2014

When warm idle goes up and down on its own, revving takes it up and it stays there for more than 10 seconds then drops...while driving at any speed when i take my foot off the gas it jerks a bit, then when i accelerate it jerks again, otherwise it is smooth

Using excessive fuel cleaner can damage injectors and the fuel pump - sounds like your problem is the fuel pump bearings, and you will probably have to have it replaced.

I have a 2000 lsi sedan 4cyl runs excellent good compression mileage has got considerably worse down to 22 hwy any ideas

*Oil change.
*Accurate tire pressure. (highway drivers experience better MPG with tire pressure 2-3 pounds higher than whats called for on tires)
*Tune up/spark plugs
*Injectors clearer/replacement. STP injector cleaner
Bad fuel/low grade/gas supplier might be bad. Try new gas station

Runs rough at lower speeds. Runs just fine at 70 with cruise on.

This sounds like a plugged injector. At low speeds it will dribble gas, rather than a fine spray. Try using a bottle of concentrated fuel injector cleaner in each tank of gas for at least 2 tanks. If it doesn't improve after the first one have a shop hook it up because this can cause wash down of the cylinder walls and dilute your engine oil with gas, damaging the motor.

most misses are injector related either from dirty injectors , low fuel pressure ow injector wiring faults
use a quality injector cleaner for a tank or two
run the fault codes to check for other related sensor problems

1998 Grand Prix ...Last week I got gas when running real low and was in a rush. In my haste I noticed when I was leaving the ground around the tanks was dug around there. a couple days later my car started...

If I'm understanding you correctly, you believe you got contaminated gas from a station where they had recent work done on their tanks. If that's so, Now that you've run most of the gas out I would start by changing the fuel filter then fill the tank with good gas (I might even go up on grade for this tank). Although it's unlikely you may have gotten a fair amount of dirt or water, you may want to try adding some dry gas in case there is still water in the bottom of your tank.
If the new filter seems to clear the problem but it come back after a short while you'll need to take the tank off and flush it. If you do it yourself don't dump the gas on the ground. If you have to flush your tank you'll need to flush the gas lines and replace the fuel filter again.

Wont run in gear. sat for a year and a 1/2 over weedy gravel with a 1/4 tank of gas, filled to half and drove on highway for an hour with only problem some engine misses under 40 km/h. did oil change,...

When stored outdoors for any length of time, you can get a substantial amount of condensation to form inside the fuel tank (as much as a half gallon) It will remain at the bottom of the tank and really mess with how it runs. Check fuel filter...Pour contents into a clean glass jar...If any water is found at all, you can bet there is quite a bit in the tank.

2005 Ford Five Hundred engine sputtering

Dear anew32, Wed 2-11-2009 3:43am EST (USA)

Do you often run your gas tank to near empty?
If so.......
This sounds like it may be as simple as cleaning the water or gunk out of the gas tank which is what I always do 1st because it's easy and inexpensive.
If your fuel is contaminated with gunk, grime, water and/or bottom junk like rust this will cause stalling and rough riding!
Try spraying a can of starter fluid in the air intake and see if it runs! If it does, it's most likely bad fuel or clogged injectors so....
Fill the tank with High Test, Add some dry gas and a good fuel system cleaner or 2 or 3 and this should dissolve all the gunk and clean the injectors! Read & follow the cans' instruction carefully.
If this cures the problem never let your gas tank get below 1/4 and especially never run it to empty as this is when the gunk and/or water will enter the system!
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!

Check Engine Light Came On...

You may have gotten some bad gas.  This gas could have been contaminated with water from condensation in the gas stations tanks, or just from being old.  I would purchase some HEET brand water remover or SeaFoam fuel additive.  SeaFoam will seperate water and clean your injectors.  Both are very good products.  Also a cheeper remedy is that if you believe it is water, then I would try pouring some rubbing alcohol (like in the medicine cabinet) in the gas tank.  An ounce or two won't hurt and it will help seperate the water and allow you to drive your car.
Any questions, please ask!! And please rate!! Thanks!

Missing when stopped or at low speeds

You may have a problem with dirty fuel injector nozzles try buying a quality fuel injector cleaner, run it through a couple of full tank of gas, it may help, if it does it is a cheap fix.
