PUT A BREAKER BAR ON ENGINE CRANKSHAFT BOLT AND SEE IF YOU CAN GET THE ENGINE TO TURN OVER BY HAND,IF IT WONT TURN, SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE SOLD YOU A EHICLE WITH A LOCKED UP ENGINE. GOOD LUCK!!!!1
your starter sounds like its sticking. the carbon brushes in older models wear down and need to be replaced. or, starter needs replacing/reconditioning. first try to tap lightly on the starter with a hammer then try to turn the key(bring hammer with you!!) failing that you may need to get it checked. you could try a hill start to see if it is just the starter.
Check power to the starter motor solenoid. If this is getting power when cranking, then the issue is with the starter motor solenoid or starter motor. Replace.
Won't start as in no rotation of the starter motor and no clicking sound? Or starter turns slowly with the engine? Or the starter and engines turns normally but will not start? Or starter turns normally but engine will not turn?
See, the starter gets power from the battery it also gets power from the ignition switch. When you turn the key the solenoid closes and supplies power to the starter motor. So if you are hearing a click the solenoid is getting getting a signal from the ignition switch. Check for power from the solenoid to the starter motor. If it lights up that means power is being transferred to the motor and the motor is either bad if it doesn't turn the engine or the engine is locked up.
The starter location is as follows:---
The starter is an electrical motor that provides a jolt of energy to ignite sparks needed to crank an engine.
First unplug the negative cable of your car battery for safety reasons.
Then remove the 10 bolts underneath the front of the vehicle to remove the splash guard. There are five bolts in the front, three in the center and two on each side.
Remove the electrical connectors attached to the starter motor. They are connected by tabs and can be easily removed with your hands.
You can use the socket wrench to remove the bolts to loosen starter motor. The starter motor will slip right off as the screws are removed.
