I have had my 1996 nissan maxima for 4 years and my battery keeps dying on me, every time I get it checked out the mech says i need a new alternator. I have had my alternator changed 4 times in 4 years. There has to be another problem that is causing my alternator to burn out, please help
Has anyone looked at the connectors to the alternator? I remember these types of stories from work, alternator after alternator, found 2 things to be the problem, one is the connector to the alternator was defective, makes a poor connection and destroys the new alternator, the other is very poor quality rebuilds from Kragen, Auto Zone and the like, use a factory rebuild, they cost more but they are just as good as a new one.
There are too many cheap brands out there besides if the belt is installed too tight this would cause a premature wear on the alternator secondly the voltage regulator built into the alternator could be over charging and causing the diodes to burn out, i hope you do not have any extra's on yur vehicle such as boosters and inverters which totaly depend on your alternator to support the current that is needed which will also burn the alternator's off
