1998 buick regal LS 3.8 engine dies wont turn over and stuck in park.

I just recently bought a 1998 buick regal ls 3.8. When I bought it i put in a cd into the cd player and it didnt work so as i drive it will randomly switch from radio to cd till i switch it back over to radio. Then a month later It was doin that constantly then all my gauges went wacky and all my dash lights went on and my car died. wouldnt start back up got it jump started and it started up but then It was stuck in park (gears are on the floor). I thought maybe my altenator died so replaced it but still same issues. Now all of a sudden a bunch of my lights went out (lisc. plate light, blinker, both back lights, and my runners) Now im thinking maybe electrical?? Anyone know what I can check to fix it?? My dad used to be a diesel mechanic in the military and it baffeled him so we are working on it together.

Well , first off being stuck in gear, there probably is a problem with
The park lock solenoid prevents shifting out of the PARK position when the ignition switch is in LOCK, ACC, or OFF. The Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) is designed to prevent shifting out of PARK when the ignition switch is in the RUN, BULB TEST, or START position, without pressing the brake pedal. The BTSI solenoid and the park lock solenoid are energized when the ignition switch is in the RUN, BULB TEST, or START position. When the park lock solenoid and the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) are energized, the mechanical lock connected to this park lock solenoid is pulled away from the shifter. The stop lamp switch receives ignition voltage in the RUN, BULB TEST, or START position from the BTSI Fuse and is normally closed, providing voltage through circuit 1135 to the BTSI solenoid, energizing the solenoid and mechanically locking the transmission shift lever whenever it is in PARK. When the brake pedal is pressed, the stop lamp switch opens, removing voltage from circuit 1135 to the BTSI solenoid. The BTSI solenoid is de-energized and the mechanical lock connected to the BTSI solenoid pulls back from the shifter allowing shifting.

You would do well to buy a service repair manual subscription from ALLDATA OEM Auto Repair Information for Professionals you have no idea of the complexity of the electronics on your vehicle . You will need wiring diagrams to sort out your electrical issues , suggest you watch videos on youtube for voltage drop testing . if your dad doesn't know electrical testing .

Replace the timming chain, gears, and magnet. With that cat getting that hot it has to be out of time. When the cam sensor picks up no signal, ecu can't control timming and reverts back to a preset, fixed base # .

SOURCE: i have a 1999 buick regal ls dying.

I found the problem. It was the crank position sensor. There was also a cracked vacuum hose connecting to the diaphragm on the fuel rail. Replaced both and my 92 Buick no longer dies. For the guy who's Buick was dying when using the turn signals - replace the crank position sensor. One of my symptoms of my Buick dying was when I used my turn signals. Use of turn signals places a varying load on the electrical system which messes up the crank posistion sensor if it is going bad.

Most likely it is the ignition switch (the key ignition switch) in the steering column ($100 at a dealer).

It may be a loose negative battery ground cable, too.
Check the negative battery cable where it conencts to the engine ground. It may be loose, corroded, damaged, or otherwise not making a good ground contact.

Add a grounding strap ($11 - AutoZone) from the engine to the chassis. That may help, but it's most likely the ignition switch.

Sometimes after I put my 2000 Buick Regal LS in Park and turn off the engine the ignition switch not the key gets stuck in the on and acc position. What causes this to happen?

Replace ignition switch (the tumbler portion) seems like its hanging up, and you shouldn't be able to remove the keys unless the switch is off.The park safety switch possibly. This switch tells the vehicle its in Park. Hope this helps.

My 1998 buick regal ls will not come out of park ... sometimes will not start, when it does start it still gets stuck in park sometimes

Neutral Safety Switch may be out of rotational adjustment on the column.
And'/Or the Brake Switch is bad and is causing the Park lock to not release when pressing on the brake pedal.

How do i fix this wheel bearing on my 1998 buick regal ls

Pull wheel... pull brake caliper... pull rotor... behind the hub there will be 3 13mm bolts turn out and the whole hub with the wheel bearing will come out, it may need some help from a soft mallet. Unplug wheel sensor and make sure to remember where it goes, then put the new one in by the reverse of removal
