My 2001 gmc sierra is acting like the tow haul mode is stuck on but it is not on what will cause this to happen?

could be a sensor problem have the OBD codes read should tell you which sensor is affected i would guess the trans selector but there are other possibilities

you have to find out why it's overheat ,trans.pipe bent,cooler restrictions,
the pcm know trans.overheat and goes to default mode

Sounds like an overrun sprag problem or torque converter problem. Perform an OBDII scan for any transmission faults. The ECU controls some trans functions. In your comparison, did both trucks have same transmission( Allison, Hydramatic) ? Did they both have same rear axel ratio?

Dodge cummins tow haul stays on

Hi, I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500, 5.9 Cummins with 225,000 miles. Just today, my Haul/Tow keeps coming on and Trans/Temp light. Keeps automatically switching in and out on its own. It's been 100,000 miles since my last trans maintenance. Going to a mechanic close and he suggested to start with fluid change, filter change, and inspect the band, maybe adjust. Trans runs very smoothly. Checked the fluid, looks clean and not hot. Is this common with this year and mileage? If so, whats normally the out come? If the band is bad, do I have to replace the entire trans?

2000 gmc 4x4 it will not shift into 3rd gear or overdrive

There is a 3/4 clutch pack in the trans that when it fails you loose those two gears. There is nothing you can do other than to pull the trans and do an overhaul . I started rebuilding those back in 1982 when they first came out in the old 700r4. Even though the new 4L60E is all computer controlled, it is still doing the same thing.

If you tow with it and do not push the tow/haul button it will burn the clutches, especially if you are towing a large heavy load.

Allison tranny shifts

No, have you changed the spin-on filter om the transmission yet? This may be the only trouble. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Tow/haul light wont turn off

I have found that on three silverado's there is a plastic clamp on the bottom side of steering column where the wires become broken and can short out. You have to remove the column covers to see this, it should be claser to the lowe dash trim panel area needs a shifter to repair unless you can fix that little wire!

THERE HAVE BEEN ALOT OF PLOBLEMS WITH THE SHIFTER HANDLE/SWITCH. THE BEST WAY TO VERIFY CONCERN IS USE A DIAG. SCANNER & VIEW TRANSMISSION DATA DISPLAY WHILE ENGINE RUNNING. THE SWITCH IN THE SHIFTER IS FAULTY. IF YOU SEE NO INPUT CHANGE WHILE DEPRESSING SWITCH THIS IS YOUR CONCERN.
