I've had my 2001 Jimmy for about 4 months & it has continually had this nagging starting problem. When I turn the key to start nothing engages. I've been told it could be the park/neutral switch in either the shift lever or the ignition. Early on it did this about every 5th time I started it but now it's getting to be about every other time. When the starter does hit it starts right off & runs great. I did check the battery & terminals and they seem to be OK. When I turn the steering wheel, hit the brake, run it thru the gears, etc. sometimes it has helped but I have found nothing consistent.
I had the same problem with my Impala it has to do with the security system failing. Its a very common think in GM cars. I found a part that helps bypass the problem all together. I put mine in about 5 years ago and i havent has and issue since. Its something u can do yourself so u dont have to worry about taking it in. also if it doesnt work for some reason its 100% gaurenteed . Check it out ask them questions they r really helpfull. Hope this helps ya out Do It Yourself GM Security bypass
Sounds like a bad ingition switch. When you turn the key it pushes a rod that goes down the steering colum. The switch is located there. It's a pretty simple fix.
