1989 chevy 350 automatic, white smoke

Starts and runs smooth, throttle up. runs rough and it puffs white smoke. Pulled all plugs, no water, doubt it is a head gasket. Could not get timing to set, way high before smooth idle. Replace timing chain, not get timing set to 10 btc, and runs rough. No check engine light, at a loss, no clue, and suggestions?

only smokes on a random occassion, no set pattern. most often when you decellerate, and then for just a second or two. its not pure white, its more along the lines of a grey and sometimes a bluish tint. I have warmed it up and removed the radiator cap and the fluid does not spew or raise up and down as if being sucked out and air forced in. If I am going to do the heads, the engine is coming out or removing the hood and fenders. I am pretty handy with anything automotive, but these computers are a royal pain. When I bought this truck the guy had a jumper wire in the OBDII connector. I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for a day, and it does not run as bad. Could all of this be because he ran it with the jumper wire in it and blew the computer?

I have the same problem and it nomoraly stops with in a few sec of start up. I could be a leaking fuel injector after shut down the fuel injector will fill the engaine and make it run rich on start up. Check oil fill cap if there is sludge on the bottom of cap then the oil and anitfreze is mixing could be head gasket leaking

1988 v8 318 4x4 ram charger starts and runs rough then puffs white smoke out of throttle body and dies what could cause this

Have you checked youre water level? White smoke can indicate water. May be headgasket. I would also dble check valv clearances and timing for tge rough running. 180° out of timing may be the rough running too.Just go through top to bottom your work. could be wires not in correct position.

502 Chevy crate. Big puff of white smoke at high rate of speed. Doing 70 mph and throttled up and white smoke blew out.

I'm not saying that you did, but white smoke usually indicates that you blew a head gasket or worse. White smoke is an indicator that coolant has entered the combustion chamber.

1989 Chevy K2500 350 will not restart after warmed up? I have replaced Heads, reset timing 0 TDC new plugs, coil, cap, button, module and pick up coil. Engine starts cold runs great but will not restart...

tdc is usually set at 8 degrees BTDC for an automatic and 4 BTDC for a manual transmission. This may help. Does the engine run rough at start up being set at 0TDC?

Getting lots of white smoke and rough running till it warms up, just thinking if glow plugs if I can do it myself on 1989 ford diesel in an old ambulance we plan to resurrect

if you are going to resurect something that old,you might just as well start with the glow plugs ,easy job . and that is your problem,so your first diagnostic was good. it isnt hard, if you get into strife yell out .

89 chevy s10 blazer puff smoke out tailpipe when 1st started

A puff of smoke when you start up indicates worn valve seals. That's why all your work didn't fix the problem and it doesn't show a code. It's a pain in the --- job that requires some specialized tools so I guess it depends on how bad it bugs you,if oyu want to fix it.
