Jul 15, 2014 - OK, just picked up a 2000 DX hatch, automatic. Stock interior everything except previous owner changed gear selector stick with an aftermarket .

check battery, also alternator

Check the tail light bulbs, check to make sure the dash lighting switch is turned up but not turned so far up that the interior lights come on when the door is closed.

Check the dimmer rheostat position beside the headlight switch its been turned down scroll the little wheel upwards.

it is more than likely a short in the headlight switch. also try the dimmer switch on the dash for the dash lights.

Check the dimmer switch. First make sure it is turned up so the lights will be at their brightest. Turn the headlights on, if the lights on the dash are actually off, you probably have a faulty dimmer switch.

look for the relay for the parking light

you have a bad light switch

DRL (Daytime Running Lights) will come on any time you start your car.
The dash lights do not come on, unless your headlights turn on. Either by a daylight sensor or if you manually turn them on by the switch.
So even though your headlights are on with the DRL, if you notice the tail lights do not come on (just like the dash lights don't).

To test if your dash lights do work, turn your headlight switch on. You should the the tail lights and dash lights come on.
