many blinker, modules , internally flash with any load.
1: check all fuses first... (SOP)
2: then remove the blinker loads from the timer.

see C305 pin 2, any load on that pin will cause it to flash.(inside)
that would be any switch in the combo switch stuck on.
ALARM BUTTON FAULTY.REPLACE IT.IT HAS THE RELAY FOR THE BLINKERS INSIDE!!!!!SO SIMPLE!!!IF THEY DONT WORK SMACK THE ALARM BUTTON!!THEY WILL WORK FOR A WHILE!!!
The simple solution could be the turn signal flasher (which are generally located under the dashboard). Very inexpensive. But you say that smoke was coming out of the turn signal arm. In that case it could be shorted out. To replace the turn signal arm assembly is pretty expensive. Maybe around $200.00 for parts and labor at a shop. Good Luck!
you need to go back over all the bulbs. Take each one out and put it back in making sure its working properly. Most likely a bulb is not grounding. I had this on a f-150 that took two days to track down. Good luck
