the best way i have found to test glow plugs is to disconnect the wire to the plug and get you 12volt test light and put your negitive lead of the test light on the positive battery cable so when you touch the test light to any ground the light will light. so now go check your glow plugs and if you have one that doesnt light the light its burned out.
good luck

SOURCE: f250 Diesel will not start cold . Has power to

Hello philkatkiele: My name is Roger and I will help you. First thing you need to check is the glow plugs. They will need tested individually. Un plug all 8 glow plugs. Take a test light and hook end to the positive battery cable. Touch opposite end of test light to the terminal end of the glow plug. The test light should light. Touch all 8 glow plugs. Ant that do not light are bad and will need replaced. If glow plugs are burnt out then the controller will flash wait light to early or very fast. The wait light should be on for approximately 10 seconds. If al glow plugs check ok then I would suspect the glow plug controller as the problem. Also if the temperature out side is below 40 degrees the truck should be plugged in. This will help to make the engine start easier. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer as this way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Replaced glow plug module because there was a burn't wire, still have the problem but no codes coming up

better check the vehicle first. and if not start ,check fuel line. must have a solid fuel line.

We think it is the diesel injection pump but not sure

Sounds like not all the glow plugs are working. It should run fairly smooth on a cold start if all of the glow plugs are working..Also you shouldn't drive off on a cold start with a diesel,Its really hard on the motors..At least give them 10 to 15 min on a cold start..The oil in them is a really thick oil and when there drove on a cold start theres no oil lubricating the internal parts and will cause the motor to seize up..You may already no this and dont mean you drive it as soon as you start it i just wanted to let you know..When you get alot of white smoke it could be two things,Theres water in the fuel which will make it not have much power die and smoke..But if it runs fine when its warm theres some bad glow plugs...Hope this helps you and have a great day

Ford 2002 f250 7.3 diesel won't start on cold mornings just replaced the cold start relay and still won't start...what else could it be?

It probably is your glow plugs which are controlled by the cold start relay. They burn out over time. This is normal. Haynes Diesel Engine Repair Manual, part 10330, will walk you through the diagnosis and replacement easily. It's about $20. Hope this helps.

1993 ford f250 7.3 diesel glow plugs not working. what to do?

Check the fuse first then check the wire harness and connection working your way back from the glow plug to the fuse box. Good luck and hope this helps. If everything is good then replace the glow plugs.

7.3 l diesel wont start

Bad glow plugs and/or glow plug controller. Common issue with these vehciles. Some also have harness failures. Replace all glow plugs as a set not individually.
