Get yourself a Maxima service manual. It will give U instructions on doing alot of re[airs for the car, including taking dash apart.

Sounds like the lens of the laser needs to be cleaned and easiest way is to buy a cd player cleaner but you can take the player apart and clean that lens with a Qtip and some rubbing alcohol.
