The Hydraulic clutch on your Grand Vitara is non adjustable. The hydraulic cylinder will self adjust/position itself as the clutch wears. If your clutch pedal friction point is high or clutch is slipping you will require a new clutch kit and flywheel machine.
This could be more than one reason. Could you please comment below describing exactly what happens when the pedal gets 'stuck' down?
Does the pedal feel correct as you push it down? Does it change gear normally even when the pedal does get stuck?
If the clutch pedal feels wrong when you use it, the clutch fluid may be low needing to be topped up and the system might need bleeding. Is the pedal slack when you press it or pull it free? This could be a faulty return spring on the pedal.
I think you will find the actuating system is hydraulic, hence not adjustable. There may however be some small adjustment on the rod which connects the clutch pedal to the clutch master cylinder to take the slop out of it. You would feel that kind of slop when you push the pedal down. Clutch is good for about 10 years of normal driving, so you are at 12 and it is time for a new clutch.
I
would try adjusting the clutch master such that the point of engagement
at the pedal, is further from the floor. This will effectively increase the
travel of the clutch slave and possibly solve your problem. The clutch
master pushrod should have an adjustment behind the pivot at the pedal
bracket. Usually a lock nut has to be loosened off a little and then
the rod screwed out of it's holder to effectively lengthen it.
Clutch ADJUSTMENTS 1997-98 Models CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT
The clutch pedal height should not be a periodic adjustment but may be checked after components of the mechanical clutch system have been replaced.
The proper clutch pedal height should be 0.2 in. (5mm) above the brake pedal height
If adjustment is necessary, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting bolt until the appropriate height is reached. Once set, keep the bolt from turning and tighten the locknut to secure the adjustment.
CLUTCH PEDAL FREE-PLAY
The clutch pedal free-play should be checked from time-to-time in order to assure proper clutch operation.
The proper clutch free-play should be 0.6-1.1 in. (15-25mm).
Fig. 1: Pedal free-play is adjusted at the joint nut (2), while keeping the outer cable nuts (3) tightened around the center cable thread portion
Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
If the free-play must be adjusted, turn the joint nut (2) located at the transmission end of the clutch cable in or out, as necessary to achieve the proper play.
Once the correct pedal free-play is obtained, check the free-play on the release arm (c), it should be 0.02-0.06 in. (0.5-1.5mm).
1999-01 Models
These vehicles are equipped with a hydraulic clutch system. No adjustment is necessary.
If it's hard to get into gear you should check the clutch is disengaging properly.
Before changing the clutch plate, check that the clutch throw-out is adjusted correctly and the actuating hydraulics/levers have the correct amount of travel.
